Elena began to gasp and pant as Nerah pulled in front of her. The pain in her paw was coming closer and closer to the center of her consciousness, going from a dull throb to a sharp stab with every step. She yowled, feeling disappointed, not so much that she now may not finish first, but that the almost mystical experience of running on adrenaline was gone. She wanted that flying feeling back, but it seemed that it was gone for good, and she was now left with pain and the choke of dust in her face.
She would not give up though. She could still finish in at least second place, and that in itself was worth pressing on. Besides, if she stopped now she would look like a quitter, a weakling...and she was already the littlest in the cult, physically if not intellectually.

{another double, and final round! please note that if elena or nerah cross the finish line (they need a score of sixteen, i believe), and the other does, as well, whomever has the higher number wins. if no one crosses the finish line, than whomever has the highest number wins. whisper – 18 nerah – 12 elena – 20}
arya was honestly rather bored of the race by this time – how long would it take for them to run thirty yards!? still, she watched, impatiently, as her companions and cult mates neared her; they seemed to have sped up considerably as they came, closer and closer to the finish line. arya let a small smile grace the corner of her lips as elena streaked closer, her feline form creaming easily the canine body of whisper, and the bear-like body of nerah, who was now lagging behind, almost close enough for whisper to be able to catch up, and maybe pass her; but not close enough. But, whisper would not have the chance, because as arya was about to call the race off, elena streaked past the finish line. Her smile growing, arya announced, “we have a winner!”

Her leg was acting up again, and she fell behind. It didn't matter, anyway. Elena had reached the goal. Had won. The race was now officially over.
Nerah slowed to a stop, tail wagging despite the pain in her limb. "Congrats!" She said to the feline. "I'm very happy for you."
But now the reason she had come here was over. She looked between Arya and Elena, feeling a little uncomfortable now. She knew the love the two shared with each other, and that her own relationship with the cult leader was pretty much over. Had there been a relationship to begin wtih? In Nerah's mind, but she couldn't speak for the other canine.
"I need to go home and rest my leg," she said to the others. "It was fun. Thanks for having me." With that, she limped off.

Elena couldn't help but strut a little, having one the race. "Did you see me, Arya??" she squealed with uncharacteristic excitement, "Did you see how fast I can run? I never would have thought that I could run like that...anyhow, do I get a prize?"
She winced suddenly and sat, lifting her paw to inspect the cut on the pad. It was quite bloody, and had grit and pebbles lodged in it. "Oh dear." she said, voice markedly less cheerful, "I seem to have hurt myself, Arya." She looked up at her beloved imploringly, hoping for a comforting lick or nuzzle.
