Silva and Yamir (Meeshdragon and Crumblebread)
It was mid noon. The pack food supply had ran low and now was empty Yamir and Silva had volunteered to go out and hunt some of the orange feathered birds that lived in the nearby parts. The birds, however, had gotten smart and were hiding from the hot afternoon sun, unusually quiet. Silva panted as she trotted along, sniffing for prey. It was times like these where she really had a lighter coat, one that wouldn't make her so hot in the afternoons. but, ah well. Food first, comfort second. She scented the air, once again, turning to her companion, the male canine Yamir "Scent anything?"

Well, it was more accurate to say that Silva volunteered to hunt and Yamir was guilt-tripped along. While running around in the Easy Bake Oven that was the forest at this time of day wasn't high on his to-do list, he hadn't done much but lie around all week and Antares had very heavily pressed that fact upon him until he heaved himself up and muttered his defeat. So, here they were.
"Do you?" He replied tersely, ears straight as pins while he strained to hear or scent something. Very far off, he thought he smelt an aroma both delicious and unusual, but he brushed it off as the hunger talking.

Silva shrugged "I thought I got a whiff of bird when that breeze kicked in, but both the breeze and the scent are long gone now" she admitted "shall we look, anyways?" her tail twitched in anticipation. Maybe it was a false alarm, or the scent of prey previously hunted, but she couldn't help but be a little excited. Hunting was always fun, and exciting, even. Perhaps this was another bird. Altering her direction a little to the west, she added "I suppose it couldn't hurt". Her ears stuck straight out to the sides as she strained to hear the familiar duck-like honk of the birds. The forest seemed oddly quiet without it, and it worried Silva, a little. Maybe it -was- just the heat?

"If you think it's worth it, being combative won't help." He gave a long-suffering sigh and relaxed a bit, but finally nodded. "Yes. Yeah, let's go see if there's anything hiding out there." His already quiet voice was lowered to match the silent tempo of the forest. It was strange, but he only noticed it subconsciously. It wasn't the peaceful kind of calm. This seemed like the tempest-before-the-storm kind of calm, but his brain didn't push it too hard.
However, after several more moments of struggling to catch hint of anything, that same scent breezed by him for a moment, coming from the west. "Did you smell that?" Now he knew it wasn't his imagination, or at least he definitely hoped not. That would be questionable. "It didn't seem like a bird."

Silva nodded to Yamir, and the two continued on, perhaps at a slightly faster pace. She didn't really register the silence as anything but uncomfortable, but still, uncomfortable was enough. She blinked at Yamir's words "Did you smell that?", pausing and closing her eyes to get a better scent. Her brow furrowed slightly "I smell...something....but I can't recognize it. Either I've never scented it before, or...well, I doubt I've ever scented it before, actually. What do you think it could be?" as she was pondering, she quickened her pace, both eager and unwilling to see what the mysterious force could be. "Do you think it could be dangerous?" Silva hadn't had much trouble with battles ever since her two evolutions, but still, the odd scent sent her on edge, fur ruffling slightly.

"I can't figure out what it is, either." His coarse lilt turned into a low growl as he admitted it. Stupid scents and their stupid mysteriousness. "Maybe it's a giant mutated bird with fangs and a taste for small aborginials and abscondings. That would suck."
He trotted in step with her, scrawny legs getting a workout. "Dangerous?" His eye twinkled curiously. That would be something. Yamir and Silva, up against something actually dangerous. "If it is, we'll give it a run for its money." In all actuality, if whatever that weird smell is turns out dangerous, Yamir's probably gonna' run, but he may as well put on a show.
Moving along towards the scent, which was still elusive but appeared every few moments fleetingly, it started to occur to Yamir just how quiet the forest really was.

(Silva evolved twice, she's an absonding now ) Silva flicked an ear as they rounded the corner "Only one way to find out" As the tree's cleared away, the afternoon sun revealed what had been causing the odd silence. A large bear, fur a dark dusky green in color, lay sleeping, smack dab in the middle of the forest. Scattered orange birds feathers lay on and around its stomach. In its paw rested the remains of a dead bird. It's brethen, the birdies that were still alive, huddled on and around trees around the bear, motionless. Probably too scared to move, for fear of waking the bear. Silva's jaw dropped "What the -heck- is that?" she managed to yelp out, eyes widening

[OH RIGHT i think i knew that, sorry xD]
"Oh, that thing is not pretty." Jesus, what was it? That thing was massive. Its muzzle was caked with dried blood and that sent a solid chill down Yamir's spine. He was whispering, and glanced over to Silva to suggest that she do the same. His entire body was rigid with shock, but that was cracking into terror more quickly the more he looked at its claw. "That could kill us. That would kill us nice and proper." He took a nervous step back, managing to be silent, but he got daring on the next one, and a leaf crunched under his paw. He flinched, the sound seeming much more loud to his ears than it was. "Not a giant bird. Worse. Definitely worse."

Silva nodded, crouching down low to the ground, fur bristling. Maybe if they were quiet, they could walk away without the near noticing- too late. A bloodshot eye slowly opened, then another. With almost a sleepy laziness, the eyes settled on the two trembling canines "grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" again, louders "Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr". As the bear stood up, it's eyes narrowed, focusing on the two with an angry snort "GRRRRRRRRRRR" it charged towards the canines, angry to have been woken up, claws slashing down and out. The birds recovered from their paralyses and flapped off, squawking. The bear roared.

Muscles completely inert with fear, the only movement going on was a neurotic twitch of his spine as the bear shifted. Luckily, if there's one thing to commend a coward for, it's how fast they can run away. "This is the part where we don't die." It took another moment before his limbs caught up with his brain, which had taken off several seconds ago. But the bear's snarl forced his body into gear and he scrabbled around, legs pumping as he dashed away. "Silva, never answer my questions again!" He would go on to regret that later, but for now it seemed like a completely sensible request. If every strange smell ended up being something so vicious, he could risk being ignored every once in a while.

(trololol)
Silva blinked, freezing in terror "Don't answer questions, got it" she choked out, turning on her heel to catch up with Yamir, who was already ahead. Behind her, the bear roared, charging after then with its blood red eyes flashing. Sprinting to catch up with him, Silva grabbed Yamir by the scruff of the neck "Sawrreee" she managed to mumble before concentrating on her absonding ability. In the next second, they were both high above in a nearby tree, dangling on one of the branches. Silva dropped Yamir onto the tree limb before clambering onto it herself, exhausted. Below them, the bear roared its fury "Eh. We're safe, for now, at least."
