Whisper had been slowly walking away from the cave, when a commotion behind her caused her to turn back around. It was the feline from the tree, boldly and brashly...and somewhat stupidly standing up to the angsty leader. Whisper knew that the situation would not end well.
Whisper was right. She watched the beating with emotionless eyes, and learned two things; One, that the Leader's name was Apani. Two, that that Whisper would have to watch her words with her, at least until the leader got to know her, or Whisper rose in rank, something she was determined to do. She knew that she was bigger than the Feline, but she also had the comprehension abilities to know that she was far too young and inexperienced to get into a scuffle with her.
Apani walked back to her cave, giving the other one final warning. Whisper turned her head to the feline laying in the clearing, and felt a pang of pity for the poor creature, but decided that it would be in her best interests to leave well enough alone.
As she walked through the clearing, the original reason for why she had ventured into these treacherous lands became clear in her mind once again. The scent of cool, fresh water met her naris, and not too far away, she found its source. Without hesitation, she dipped her muzzle into the water, and began lapping voraciously, gulping down as much water as her stomach could possibly handle. She remained there for a few moments, only taking a moment to let the cold, flowing water cascade over her muzzle.
Finally, she lifted her head, crystalline droplets falling from her elegantly sculpted muzzle. A content smile crossed her features, and she made her way back into the sunlight, finding a nice patch of grass that had an ideal amount of sun. Circling once or twice, she flopped down, and proceeded to lay her head on her paws. It took a good bit to tire out the normally-hyper canine, but she was, indeed, exhausted. She laid there, eyes half-lidded, occasionally licking her lips for the few spare drops that remained.

Silva had been watching all this with growing horror and dismay. When the intruders were first spotted, she hadn't really been watching, but as she heard a voice she recognized, and scented that familiar scent, she shot to her feet. Now she trotted over, blinking at the canine "Whisper?" Silva breathed, blinking at the canine. A girn burst form her face as she walked over, happily nuzzling the female "Whisper! Good to see you!" in an undertone she added "I hope you're alright" she blinked at Apani. Silva had never met the other leader before, and didn't exacltyy know what intruders made her so mad.
As she saw her leader attack the other intruder, Silva's ears flattened in shock. she was an excellent hunter, but aside form play fighting, she had never attacked another of her kind. Never thought of it, even.

Nerah was hoping that she was massively misinterpreting everything she was seeing. If she was honest with herself, however, she'd know she wasn't. Was this even the kind of group she wanted to associate with? They were so quick to turn to violence. Well... Apani was. Arya seemed more peaceful. She didn't know, though. Doubts were plaguing her.
I'll see what Silva does. She sighed. If her friend stayed, she would stay. If her friend left, so would she. She had originally come into the Cult because of Silva, anyway.
Speaking of, the shadowy canine approached one of the newcomers, seeming to know her. Nerah followed and smiled at the newcomer. "Hello." She looked between her and Silva. "You two know each other?"

Kayalee didn't try to fight back, she didn't even flinch. She kept her eyes open through everything. As the foul creature that called herself Apani stalked off Kayalee yowled out. "Your words are strong, but you are wrong on so many levels. You may think you are strong through beating, but true strength comes from the heart. I suppose you don't know the meaning of the word. I am trying to be the hero here, you are, and you have failed. I don't care how much you hate trespassers. I don't care how much you hate me. Hate doesn't make you strong Apani, you get strength through the pain of life. I am the only one who has grown stronger from this. Just remember this Apani. For you haven't seen the last of me." She finished strong, her wounds stung and blood poured into her eyes. It was just a sign of her strength over the poor untaught Apani. With that she turned and stalked into the trees, her head held high. She paused quickly, then yowled louder since Apani had already went to her den. "By the way, my name is Kayalee, since you were kind enough to tell me your name." With that, Kayalee was gone. For now.

Silva nodded "I met Whisper when she was a sproutling. We spoke for a while, then I left to go back to our exploration." she shrugged "It was fun making a new friend~"
She turned to watch the spectacle with Apani, frowning slightly. What a violent place! She sighed, shifting form paw to paw. She loved being part of groups, but such a violent one....Anyway, she couldn't leave without Nerah. Silva was best friends with Nerah, and she wouldn't be able to leave with herself if she left and Nerah got hurt in the Cult. So many descisions....

"Ah!" Nerah exclaimed as the relationship was explained. She didn't care if Silva had friends outside the pack. In fact, she was happy that Silva seemed to know so many other creatures. Friends were a wonderful thing, after all. "In that case, welcome." She smiled at Whisper. "It's good to meet you."
Silva's focus shifted to the fight and her smile reversed to a frown. "I don't understand this. Do either of you?" She didn't understand why anyone would feel the need to fight for anything. She didn't understand the males are controlling argument. She didn't understand anything, she supposed, though she felt as though she had learned a lot in her lifetime. Some things, she guessed, simply flew over her head.

Apani shook her head at the female's words; so Kayalee was her name . . . she wouldn't forget it. Next time that fool came back, she would finish her off - she had no time for creatures who tried to change the world with their actions, and even less time for fools who tried to pass on their "wisdom" to her. Ha! What was it the feline had said? True strength comes from the heart. Well, Apani had a heart, all right - a heart of steel and ice. That was perhaps the only sensible thing that the foolish trespasser had said; other than that, she had said . . . tripe, to be quite honest.
At least she was gone; Apani could get on with her life. She knew that the Cult wouldn't like what she'd done - but they had to see her true colours. A Cult couldn't be built on lies, so it was best that they saw her iron paw now rather than believe she was a sweet, innocent feline and then discover later that she had no tolerance for fairy-tale believers. Now, she had business to attend to: namely, her Cult. They had probably all witnessed her actions, and whilst she had no regrets, she felt she had to iron out a few things with her members; why she had done what she did, and why, if they stayed on her good side and were loyal to the Cult, it wouldn't happen to them.
Apani poked her head out of the cave - a suitable place for her to sit and think, but not where she should be right now - and walked towards a group of creatures sitting together. She briefly recognised them as Silva, Nerah, and . . . she had never caught the name of her final recruit, the one who had joined mere moments before she had attacked Kayalee, and sent her on her way. With a sigh, she set off on her path, and sat herself next to the three. She hoped that, after her display, she was making them tremble with fear; if not, she was failing in her job as being the iron paw in the Arya-Apani combination.
"I assume you all saw that?" she asked casually, keeping her cool; she would act as if that was nothing to her. As if it were a daily occurrence. Well, it could be, if anyone else tried to threaten her Cult; she would fight until her very last breath to keep this group alive. "That is exactly what could happen to any one of you. What could happen . . . stay loyal, and don't be insolent like that feline." She smirked, savouring the feeling of victory of Kayalee. "She spoke in riddles, and though her words were certainly . . . stirring, I don't want anyone to get any ideas."
She shook her head, glancing at her paws and examining the claws that sat there, half-sheathed in them. They were slightly stained with blood, but as soon as that dried, it would fall off in flakes; not a pleasant way to spend the next morning, picking off dry blood, but she would have to do it. "I know that she may have been trying to set an example - and it's sweet, it really is, that someone would go to such lengths to try and break up my Cult, to try and inspire you all to pick up sticks and move . . . but I can assure you that anyone who follows that example will face a fate worse than hers. She got off lightly compared to what these claws can do when I'm really angry!"
Sensing that she should depart, otherwise she'd be just as bad as that speech-making intruder she'd just driven out, she finished with a short: "Stay loyal, stay safe." She began to trot away, smiling to herself; she may be feared, she may be hated, but she had control. She was strong, and she had proved her strength today; to her, that was victory. She loved nothing more than control, and even the thought of losing to that crazy intruder made her feel sick. Before she left completely, however, she turned back to the group.
"You," she called out, pointing to the new canine that had joined recently, the brown-coloured one. She never caught her name, but she was sure to remember it after they'd had a private meeting in the cave. "I want you to come with me - into the cave, please." She was treating the cave as her office, and why not? The members of the Cult knew better than to try and eavesdrop - anyone who did would face punishment - and if she went far back enough into the cave, she could create a menacing shadow over her face, increasing her authority and giving her that extra burst of power that kept her going.

Silva leaned protectivly against Whisper "She's not in trouble is she? she's just a pup" Silva was a bit overprotective at times, but after seeing that display, she wanted to make sure none of her friends would enter that cave and never come back. "I can vouch for Whisper, she's my friend" Silva shivered slightly before repressing it. Yes, she was a bit afraid, but she wouldn't back down is Whisper or Nerah or anyone else was in danger.

Whisper's eyes had already begun to feel heavy with the sun's sleep inducing slumber, but she heard her name being called. Lifting her head slightly, she saw...Silva! Her tail began to thump the earth happily, and she began to happily wiggle towards the black canine.
"Silva! I knew I'd find you!" she said with a laugh, happily reciprocating the nuzzle. "I hope you've been well."
At that time, the canine who had originally greeted Whisper at the very beginning of this encounter, walked over and smiled at her, asking if they knew each other. Whisper nodded hurriedly.
"Oh, yes. Silva was the first creature I saw when I emerged from my pod." she quipped with a grin, smiling up at the other canine. Silva explained her recalling of the time they had met, and Nerah seemed to approve. Whisper found it somewhat hard to believe that after what had just happened, such talk of friendship could even occur. Nerah seemed to read her mind.
As she posed the question as to if either of them understood what had happened, Whisper had a response on the tip of her tongue, but her mouth swiftly shut as she saw Apani approaching. She dipped her head respectively; she was the newcomer here, so she had no idea how to treat a higher-ranking member, save for silence and the whole 'speak when spoken to' rule.
Apani began to explain her actions. The way she knew that the three of them had been unsettled was eerie. She explained herself in a concise manner, and Whisper, apt at playing Devil's Advocate, could understand where she was coming from. Life wasn't pretty, and anarchy could sprout from the slightest weakness. It made...some sense, but Whisper's mind would still have to get used to the concept.
Once Apani turned to leave, a soft sigh of relief escaped her nostrils. The relief was short lived, however, as Apani brusquely turned and called for her to join her in the cave for a 'private meeting'. Whisper's eyes followed the retreating back of Apani, and then darted up to Nerah and Silva, a hint of fear in her amber eyes. She slowly rose to her feet, and without a word, followed Apani at a distance.
Her heart pounded with anticipation and fear. Was Apani going to kill her for her "challenge"? It didn't make sense for the leader to kill a new recruit. Perhaps she had changed her mind?
Though recently quenched, Whisper's mouth felt strangely dry. She licked her lips in order to ease the aching dryness, and slowly entered Apani's cave. Once Apani had found a place to sit, Whisper slowly lowered herself down to her haunches, her tail coming and wrapping around her legs.
"At your service." she stated softly, dipping her maw once again so that it touched her chest.

Nerah still didn't like this situation, but at least it was over now. Well...the absolutely terrifyingly worst part of it was over. There was still tension in the air, and Nerah wasn't sure how much she could trust Apani after this. After all, she had been a mere visitor at one point as well.
The canine took in a deep breath and released it slowly, feeling her nerves calm just a bit. There had to e a reason for that, and a reason for the leader's attitude toward them. She didn't understand it. She hated how little she understood of this situation.
Maybe if I hang around a bit more, I will understand.. She hoped so. She liked being part of a group, but she wanted it to be a good group. Maybe it was. There was still plenty of time to find out.

Silva hesitated as she looked back and forth, sensing her friend's fear. Stepping forward, she added to the leader "Should I come in with Whisper? I mean, erm, I'll go in, if....well, that is...she's just a pup"Silva said, attempting in vain to defend herself verbally. she glanced over to Nerah for support, hoping their leader wouldn't be too angry. Silva prided herself in being a decent hunter, but she never had to fight another wolf, and she hoped she wouldn't be attacked. Silva didn't have a mean bone in her body, and she didn't know if she would be able to defend herself if she was attacked, physically or morally. It seemed so...wrong...to attack another sentient being, even if they were attacking you as well. Especially when you were nearly twice their size. Oh well. Maybe if Silva kept a humble tone, she would be okay. hopefully. Probably.

Apani almost wanted to laugh at the pup's apprehension. Her name was Whisper, as Silva had revealed - a nice but simple name, the feline thought. As she led the brown-coloured canine into the cave, and settled herself down into a comfortable sitting position, she organised her thoughts. She was calm - her anger had been poured into her attack, and now that was over, she had nothing left to give to the day. In fact, she was almost too tired for emotion; however, she still mustered up a pleased smile at the sight of Whisper.
"You showed potential with your little speech," Apani murmured, not even meeting the canine's eyes; she kept her gaze looking outwards, inspecting the clearing with careful eyes. "It was rude, and quite frankly I could have done to you what I did to Kayalee for it . . ." She paused, letting the thought sink in; she certainly didn't want Whisper to think she was going to be friends with her, oh no - she wanted that fear and apprehension to remain within her. It would make her stronger, if anything else, and that was a good thing. "But I think you showed potential."
The female got up, and began to pace; she had not dragged this canine in here just to compliment her. She could have done that outside, with Whisper's friends watching. No, she wanted this to be more . . . private - to keep the pressure up, in a way. She circled the canine slowly, now focusing her piercing blue gaze upon Whisper. "Even though you showed potential, you're still naive - and I don't want the speech again, thank you very much," she added quickly, just to make sure Whisper wouldn't go through the "don't underestimate me" routine again. "I mean, to stroll into my clearing and think I wouldn't notice your little plan . . ."
Apani focused her gaze on Whisper's eyes - the canine wasn't to speak until she had finished her little interrogation. "I mean, you're rather brave for carrying it out - and even more brave for not crumbling under the pressure, and admitting it to me right away . . . no doubt you're going to pretend that you don't know what I'm talking about." She scoffed loudly - loud enough so that it would echo around the cave, and the creatures outside would hear it. They were still in plain sight - the cave's wide, gaping mouth revealed them to the whole clearing, and Apani knew better than to attack a canine who had seemingly done nothing in front of creatures who might find it unnecessary. Whilst it was necessary to attack Kayalee, to drive her out, Apani didn't think it was necessary to fight Whisper . . . not yet, at least.
In a mocking, high-pitched voice, she murmured: "Oh, I didn't know anything, Apani! I just stumbled across the Cult, Apani! It was a nice story, but not any more - I let you get away with it for a while, even let you stay in my clearing to talk with your little friends, but now, the game's up." She sat down straight in front of Whisper, and looked her levelly in the eye. "Tell me what your connection to Kayalee is."
She stood up again, continuing her circling act. "It's a bit more than a coincidence that you both turned up at the same time - you the clumsy, naive canine, there to distract me whilst Kayalee made her attack. I'm guessing she had an army hidden within the trees, waiting to attack us and drive us out - but you know more about her plans than I do." With a wry smile, she walked a little way away, and stopped, gazing out of the cave's mouth and surveying her Cult. "I think you're right - when you made your speech, you made me realise that you are smarter than I thought. So smart that you hid your true connection with Kayalee, distracting me just long enough for her to drive out my Cult!"
Her voice was raised, but she lowered it sharply. "I won't hurt you if you tell me the truth," she whispered, turning round slowly to face the canine. "Just tell me how you know her, and what group you're a part of. I'll let you go - if you're lucky, I might even forgive you, and let you stay in my Cult, because as I said, you've got potential." An icy smile stretched across her jaw, fixed in position although it wasn't at all intended to be friendly. "Tell me what you and Kayalee were planning."
