Kayalee wandered down the dusty path, which was prettied by various wildflowers. She stopped when the path narrowed into nothingness. She looked around the large plains. It was an amazing sight, the grass came to her knees in some places and in others it came up long enough to tickle her belly. She sighed as she looked around the large plains. A little creature scurried across her path, it looked sort of like an over sized rat. She dropped to a hunters crouch, stalked a few paces, then leaped. The creature looked startled for a moment, then dove into a hole. "Dang it!" Kayalee hissed, staring into the hole where the little creature had vanished.

The long grass that grew around the plains was very new and Konan actually quite liked it. The general feel of the plains was quite nice, although to Konan everything new was 'nice' because the feeling of smelling all the new smells and seeing all the new sights was exhilarating enough to make her believe that it was the place itself she liked. She tried to peer past the horizon; it was seemingly endless! Her companion, Kayalee, seemed to be enjoying the plains as well. She was happy that she had chosen this route.
Konan surveyed the territory some more. She noticed Kayalee position herself into a hunting crouch and begin to stalk a creature that resembled a large rodent. The hunt was unsuccessful, as the creature fled into the security of a hole, but this was the first prey-animal Konan had ever seen. And she had instinctively recognized it as an animal she was supposed to hunt and kill to survive. Its scent awoke a predatory hunger inside her.
The silver female hissed in annoyance after her failed attempt of catching something and Konan's mouth pulled into a half-smile. It wasn't quite arrogant or mocking, but it was rather dry-humoured. 'Better luck next time, hm?' remarked Konan. She shook herself and licked a paw, caressing herself neatly. The downside of being in such a dusty place was that it made her feel quite unclean, leading to frequent intervals in their traveling where Konan stopped to briefly groom herself. She grinned at Kayalee, this time a lot less dryly and more light heartedly. Although, I'm pretty sure I couldn't do any better!'

Kayalee hardly noticed Konan as she hunted, she forgot everything when she was pulled into her hunting instinct. She whirled to face Konan, her fur stood on end in surprise at how close she was. The expression on Kayalee's face was so shocked it was comical. She took a breath, and forced her fur to flatten. "Don't sneak up on me when I am hunting please." She breathed. "Hunting's not to hard, I caught a squirrel earlier." Kayalee meowed, not in an I'm-awesome-at-hunting tone, it was more of an explanation. Konan's grin was contagious, because Kayalee suddenly felt a smile playing at the edge of her muzzle.

Konan would've felt more guilty for startling Kayalee if the face she had pulled in her surprise hadn't been so darn humorous. Her shock made it difficult for the black cat to stifle her grin in the slightest, to make it look less potentially rude. But oh well, she was certain that the she-cat was aware that this was all in good humor; made obvious by the smile tempting the corner of her mouth.
'Oh, cool,' remarked Konan a little distantly. Not distantly enough to sound like she wasn't listening, but for that moment, her mind was elsewhere. She was thinking about hunting... she wanted to give it a try. She wouldn't have thought it would be easy, but the instinctive feeling she had undergone the moment the scent of the rodent met her nostrils felt so natural. It was what she was supposed to do, and she was feeling confident that she was more than capable of catching at least something small.
She had found her focus wandering, and settled her eyes back onto Kayalee. 'Hm, I'm going to give it a go,' announced Konan proudly. She instantly lifted her muzzle to the air and inhaled deeply. A little further away, she smelled a small mammal that she recognized as the same species of the one that Kayalee had attempted to catch previously. Falling into the hunter's crouch as if she had done this a million times, the lithe black cat moved forward silently. An elusive dark shadow, a dangerous black menace. The formerly happy and cheerful sparkle in her eyes had clouded over and darkened to an intimidating, unforgiving hue of a huntress.
She edged closer... inch by inch. Pawstep by pawstep. Her silent padding had gained her a lot of distance now, and the space between her and the rodent-like animal was smaller now. Small enough so that if she stepped any closer it would hear her for sure, but luckily she was close enough to leap in on it with one powerful jump. Konan was totally reliant on her legs, now. The muscles in her hind legs tensed up, and she pushed off of the ground with all the power she had. It proved to be enough for her to come down on the rodent, for soon enough she felt her unsheathed claws sink into its plump body.
It let out a shriek and she could hear its heartbeat rapidly fasten, but she wasn't going to give up anytime soon. She made an attempt of making a fatal bite to its neck, but it squirmed in terror, causing her to miss. 'Damn it!' Now infuriated, Konan was awoken with a new fiery determination to end this rat's life. And she did. A little more messily than she would have preferred, but she succeeded. The limp body of the prey lay at her paws and the life returned to her eyes. 'I did it!' she said excitedly. 'My first hunt!' She turned to Kayalee to confirm that she had been watching.

Kayalee watched Konan ghost along the ground, dark as a living shadow. She has a very good hunting form. Kayalee thought, eyeing Konan as she inched along the ground slowly. Kayalee had felt the huntress inside herself before and knew how exhilarating it was to find ones self launched off the ground onto a furry body. Kayalee watched the first strike, then the killing bite. "You're very good." Kayalee praised Konan, then added ruefully, "My first hunt was far less interesting, it was just pulling an idiotic frozen squirrel out of a tree." Kayalee remembered the interesting taste of squirrel, then her stomach growled. "Well, I guess I must try again." Kayalee meowed, she opened her mouth and let scents rush into her open mouth. The sharp scent of another one of the tunneling rodents hit the roof of her mouth. Her blue eyes flamed and she quickly dropped to the ground. She skirted along the side of the path, moving north. She then slowed to a hunting pace and dropped lower to the ground. The grass tickled her belly as she moved, she heard the rodent's pounding heart as she got closer. She squinted through the grass and saw a juicy looking rodent of the same species she had seen earlier, and Konan had caught. She launched forward and landed squarely on the rodent's back. It gave little resistance, for Kayalee had broken its spine when she landed. She quickly bit into the rodent's neck and stood over it proudly, her tail high.
