It was the difference between what was and what was not. It existed. It was being, but without feeling; knowing, but without thinking. Until the shaking came. Fear shot through him, his first feeling. He was calmed by an unseen force, a force that had always seemed a part of him and was now breaking away. It was becoming other, strange, and he fought it, jowling through fluid-filled lungs. As the second great shake came, shuddering from head to toe, he yowled again and then realised he couldn't... there was a word for it. The need wasn't pressing, but it grew with every passing moment. Something had to give. Then, for the final time, the whole world shook, something cracked, and he fell. It was a short fall, but the longest one of his life.
He hit the ground with a sickening thud. Stunned, the kitten lay inside his pod, trying to fathom what exactly had just happened. 'Tree, mother tree, why did you drop me?' The voice of the tree, which he had once been a part of and was now shed like a leaf, came faintly to him. "No-one dropped you, sweet child. It's time, and you let go." Let go? Why would he let go? He was frightened now, and scared. But, slowly, the flood of knowledge began to piece itself together in his mind, as if nudged by an unseen hand. Suddenly, he knew that there was a world outside this liquid, slow-moving container. He knew that there were breezes that would buffet his fur, and he knew the breezes would fill his lungs and allow him to... to... "Breathe, sweet one. Breathe." Breathe, respire, inhale, exhale; scent, rinse, repeat, rejoice. But how... how did he get out? The tree was fading, and seemed almost to laugh at him. This wasn't at all funny! "Don't worry, sweet one, my Malonask. You will be just fine." Malonask! Now that was a name. Not as pretty as the tree's name, of course: Annab, a sweet name, a wide name, wide as the heavens and vast and deep as the earth. Not that he knew what either of these were, of course... But he'd find out, right? He had to. Without Annab, mother tree, to help him, then he would stay inside this pod forever. And it was getting more and more cramped by the minute. Almost without realising it, he moved a leg. The vibration! He felt it from the tips of his whiskers to the tip of his tail. But this method had promise. Bravery welled up in his chest and, in the pitch black, he grinned to himself. Time to make a move.' He drew back a strong hind paw and pulled himself into a more suitable position, took careful aim... and kicked with all his strength.
Outside the pod, the day was clear and sunny. After having fallen from the tree with a thud, it lay still for a good few moments, rocking gently. Birds sang in the trees, as its occupant prepared for the great escape and let fly. The pod rocked again. For those with carefully-trained ears, perhaps you might notice a colourful string of curses reverberating from the round shape. Only one of the birds, perched in the tree, cocked his black head to one side to listen and chirruped disapprovingly. He fluttered down to land on the offending pod and rewarded it with two loud taps against the hard carapace. Any further attempts at cursing were drowned out by an offended warble of notes. He was not in the least amused.

(I'll only stay here a day or two, I need this a thread open for something else :3) Silva padded through the orchard, happily enjoying the comforts of nature. She smiled as she passed her own parent tree, the black canine giving it a comforting lick before moving on. Life was good. Silva herself was a large canine, the largest of them all, of course. She was an Absonding canine, with fur so short and black that she almost seemed to melt into the shadows. Even her nose and pawpads were black, with only the faintest glossy sheen revealing their existence to the world. Her eyes were a glowing yellow color. A crick disturbed her reflection. She paused to see what looked like a giant fruit pod shaking on the ground. with another loud thump, the pod burst open, revealing a bedraggled young feline. Silva paused, then smile,d letting the grin light up her face. she padded over to the feline, nudging it...no, him...gently with the tip of her snout "Wake up little one. Hello. Welcome to the world" Silva said with a smile

He reminisced over his first memories there, coming out of his pod, and learning to walk, meeting his friends, talking. The black feline scented something very familiar, a canine. Not just any canine, it was Silva! He bounded after the scent, his red eyes seeming to glow with joy.
The canine wasn't alone, she was leaning over new born feline, welcoming it to life. Antares couldn't help but come barreling over to them, nearly crashing into the young one. He had luckily slowed himself to a halt in time, grinning in excitement to the new life that just entered this glorious world.
"Welcome to life, young one!"

Silva blinked in surprise at antares' s smiling form. She hadn't remembered the last time she saw the feline so happy,. Wagging her tail, she walked over to him and gave him a happy nuzzle. "Good to see you" she said happily, wagigng her tail. "Wells, I'm glad this little one is alive~ Looks like her made it okay, so I best be off now. He's sure a cutie though~" before giving a happy bark and disappearing among the orchard trees, happy to see her friend and new life both come into the world. Tail wagging happily, the black form dissapeared into the shadows

[th][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=width,700,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee203/tigertron56/AFW/Malobg2.png,true]Malo blinked at the sky for a few moments. He was free! Apparently, claws were good for more than just looking pretty... But thought had to wait. He rolled onto his side and proceeded to cough up every drop of fluid in his lungs. It hadn't rubbed them raw, but it was suddenly unpleasant, and now that they were clean empty, well. He drew in a deep breath and shuddered with delight. This, this must be breathing! And the air! It was warm and sweet, slightly laced with an aroma of fruit, whatever that was, and soil, which he somehow knew was the crumbly brown stuff that the grass grew from. It was soft, it was gentle-- it felt like his mother-tree's touch, but only on his paws. He just lay there for a moment, drinking in the feeling.
Malonask didn't even notice the creature who was approaching him, he was so busy smelling the air. Then something soft but firm nudged his shoulder, and his eyes flew open in surprise. The figure who stood over him was the sleekest, most imposingly huge figure he had ever seen. However, she seemed to be just a disembodied head from his perspective -lying on his back as he was. His golden eyes took in a graceful, if enormous, muzzle, a huge wet nose and two sensational, luminous eyes. 'Like stars,' he thought, drowning in their brilliant hue. 'Stars chosen by the trees themselves, plucked from the heavens just for her...'
"Wake up little one. Hello. Welcome to the world." He smiled at her smile, then shuddered a little at the sight of her massive teeth. She was beautiful, this creature; she seemed so proud, so grand and graceful. How could he speak to such a breathtaking creature? But he had no time to pause, because a sound like thunder was approaching quickly. "Welcome to life, young one!" The young tom rolled onto his side and finally got a good look at both of the figures. One was taller than him, but much less imposing than the female who stood above him, and his eyes were red, deep and crimson and very different from hers. He glanced down at his own paws, found himself to be a brown-tinged rust, and couldn't help being disappointed. These two made an exceptional matching pair, each appearing graceful and lean in their stillness. But he smiled widely, brushing away disappointment-- after all, he was alive! It was frightening, it was strange, but it was life. He wasn't tied to his mother tree any more. He could run as far as the edge of the sky if he so desired, and so could this beautiful pair before him. His smile widened. This would be the greatest life anyone had ever lived, he was sure of it!
"Greetings!" he chirruped, then widened his eyes in surprise. Words! Not thought but spoken, as if he'd always done so. How long had these two been in this world, he wondered. Did they speak well? Words that had moments ago fastened themselves together in his head suddenly turned to garbled trash on his tongue. "Arh ig ya--" He stopped, and flattened his ears in embarrassment. "Um..." Oh dear, more gibberish. Maybe there was something wrong with his mouth? He poked his tongue out and tried to get a look at it. Nope, he just couldn't quite... He leaned further forward, and further still, trying furiously to move his nose from where it was in the way of his tongue. 'Just a little more!' And then promptly lost his balance and fell head-over-heels into one of the pair.
OK. As far as first steps went, surely it could have been worse?
note; Thank-you for welcoming Malo into the world :D ^^ Sorry about the long reply time-- I'm not a very quick writer :c Edit: Thank-you for posting, Meesh c: Um, I guess Malo will notice her absence after he picks himself up and recovers from his embarrassment. I'm pretty sure his role-player empathises >.<

I'm glad to see new life come into our world! He really is a cute on, huh?" Antares leaned down and gave the young feline a like between the ears gently. "I will see you at the den!" the black feline called as the canine bounded away, looking down at the russet tom below him. The small feline's grin warmed him inside, it made him feel wonderful to see such happy young life.
"Greetings!" the young cat piped his eyes widening in surprise before garbling gibberish, ears flattened in embarrassment. "That's okay, it took me a while to get a handle on my words" Antares smiled even wider before moving quickly in front of the other feline to catch him before he rolled down the incline behind them. "Haha, are you alright?" he laughed, propping the tom into his feet again.
"What is your name? Mine is Antares."

[th][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellSpacing,0,true][atrb=width,700,true][atrb=cellPadding,0,true] | [atrb=background,http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/ee203/tigertron56/AFW/Malobg2.png,true]The young tomcat shook his head to clear it, then grinned sheepishly up at the black cat above him, grateful for his help in returning to all four paws planted firmly on the ground. Wow, this living business was harder than he'd expected! Maybe it would take him a while to master the basics; he would probably be tripping over himself for a while before those grand dreams of his could become reality. He'd flattened his ears again in embarassment and grinned sheepishly as the handsome cat had tried to comfort him, and now just nodded and smiled again to confirm that he was, in fact, fine... Aside from having just fallen flat on his face in front of the second person he'd ever met. He smoothed the fur on his head with one paw selfconciously. Oh dear, oh dear. Such a grand cat as this one must have had thousands of great adventures by now-- maybe he could ask of them, of this beautiful land that stretched on to forever, or at least as far as he could see.
Suddenly, he realised that this great hero had asked him a question. "Nana... manoa... Malonask!" he mewed quickly, again brushing a forepaw over his ear, and whispered, "Malonask," in a slightly more awed tone, feeling the name ripple over his tongue. Then the great tom's name finally stuck in his brain and he smiled widely in greeting, his tail waving merrily. "Antares!" He probably sounded like an idiot, but he just had to taste that name too-- the way the cat had said it made it sound so regal, so noble. It was the name of a great explorer, a traveller of lands far an near-- a scholar? Friend? A spirit of travel, perhaps, who would stop at nothing until he had seen it all, done it all. The one you could trust with your life to stand against whatever the world had to offer. "It's..." he paused, trying to show this new language the respect it deserved. He would try not to mangle what he hoped was praise! "It's a grand name, a--" he paused again to rack his brains, not even realising that he was swiping a paw over his right ear again in the gesture that required him to dip his head. "The name of a great hero!" He finished at last, not entirely happy with his word choice but beaming up at Antares, as if he could radiate happiness like a small sun.
