it was strange that the canine wanted so much to have a child - she was just barely born herself - and yet, the urge was unquenchable. so, she had begged, begged so very hard, to have a companion, so that they may choose a tree under which to sleep the night away - and then she would have a child. arya would be a mother, and the very thought made her feel as if she was floating on air.
the companion that arya brought along with her was a member of the cult, an army-like organizational she had started with apani, a feline who had the wits that matched her smooth feline grace. apani, though...apani would not make an apt match. granted, the other half of the pair arya had created was also a female, but at least a canine, for a hybrid did not much appeal to the femme. her partner was nerah, a masculine female with a coat that was similar, yet different, than arya's. she was waiting now, at the orchard, waiting so they could choose a tree that would bear her - their - child.

It seemed as if the world would always be full of surprises for Nerah. The brown canine seemed to encounter something completely new whenever she took more than a few steps in any direction. Upon being born, she had learned walking, met the creatures that would become her pack, and learned to talk. Her first trip out of the orchard had her first fight and learning how to hunt. Leaving it again with her pack had taught her a more complex way of hunting and that was also when the foursome decided to always be together and live as a family.
And then Silva had introduced her to The Cult, and that event introduced her to the brown-and-white canine she was traveling back to the orchard to meet. Nerah liked the other canine. She was majestic, and seemed kind enough. At the very least, she treated Nerah well. One thing lead to another with that meeting, and - before she knew it - Nerah was agreeing to form a child with the canine that was now one of her superiors. She wasn't opposed to the idea in the least - in fact, she was looking forward to it - but it was overwhelming. Life marched on so quickly and hectically. It seemed she had only just crawled out of the pods, and now she was about to see and participate in the event that would lead to the creation of new life...if they were lucky. She couldn't wait to see what came of this.
At last, Nerah arrived at the orchard. She glanced around, spotted Arya, and made her way toward the other canine. She stopped in front of her companion and bowed in greeting, her tail wagging slowly.

arya was shifting nervously from foot to foot, tapping out in her irregular beat ‘i am so nervous!’ over and over. When she finally saw her companion, a smile burst forth from the canine’s lips, and she yipped happily at nerah, to excited to even form a coherent sentence. the many-hued female that would be serving as the other half of this union did a small bow towards arya, and the female was momentarily confused – was this an acknowledgment of their soon to be relationship, or simply a show of inferiority in the presence of the diamond five star. deciding that it was display of the mutual soon-to-be parenthood, arya nodded back to her, the brown and white female’s tail wagging even faster than nerah’s.
arya trotted over to a small cluster of trees, taking the lead in their expedition to find a tree which to sleep under to form their child. she gestured with her tail for nerah to come next to her, looking up at the trees with wide ebony eyes, sure one of these would be the perfect tree for their purpose.
there were three trees, each so very different. one was a towering one, the tips of its highest branches silhouetted against the bright blue sky. the tree was swathed with thorns, the branches studded with the spikes. the leaves that were woven among the thorns were many shades of aqua, blue, cobalt and sapphire, tone of amethyst thrown throughout, their glossy sheen reflecting the weak sunlight that poured through the gaps in the clouds. bright yellow blossoms were spotted amongst the purples and blues, giving the tree a very vibrant look. “nerah, this tree is the one!” arya said, snuggling beneath the tree, in a gap between the roots, gesturing for nerah to join her, once again. soon, soon, the child would come.

Arya smiled, and Nerah smiled back. It seemed they were both excited about what was to happen. She was a bit surprised when Arya returned her nod, but she supposed it made sense. This meeting was personal rather than business, after all. Personal, but possibly the most important thing either of them would ever do. What could be more important than bringing new life into the world? And now was just as god a time as any in which to do it.
Arya headed for the trees, and Nerah followed, moving up next to her when the other canine gestured with her tail. The two looked at the trees together, eyes wide with wonder. One of the trees would soon be home to their developing child. But...which one?
Arya stopped at a towering, brightly-colored tree armed with thorns and decorated with blossoms. It was an impressive sight, and she nodded when her partner exclaimed that that tree was the one. It was gorgeous, and the thorns would protect their child until it was ready to enter the world. It certainly seemed perfect.
Her partner snuggled beneath the tree, and Nerah joined her, snuggling close. She willed herself to relax and then sleep, knowing that was essential for this to even have a chance of working.

as much as she wanted her child to come quickly, it was hard for arya to will herself to fall asleep. there had been times where she was so tired that she could do nothing but sleep, but this was not one of those times. the mere thought of having a child to call her own made her heart flutter faster. but yet, tuning her senses (especially her hearing) towards her partner, arya found herself lulled into a gentle calm. the quiet lub-dub of nerah's heartbeat, sounding as if it was muffle in cotton, soothed her, and her tense muscles melted away, until she was as limp as one could be while still being conscious.
as scents from around her rushed into arya's nose, the canine was able to relax even more. slowly, oh so slowly, the world around her faded, first the color seeping away, then the monochromatic scene finally fading into blackness, the warm comfort of sleep.
