The world drifted by his eyes in a dreamy haze, obscured for the most part by the cocoon that was encasing him. Protecting him. Nourishing him. He was conscious, though seemingly in a state of limbo. Not quite bored, since this was all he knew and one could not possibly be bored when nothing exciting has been experienced, he watched the world flit by. It was enticing, this idea of being out there for once. But was he really ready to leave the protection of this place, the only one he's ever known? No, now was not the time. He would stay in this familiar setting for a while longer.
How much time had passed? It's not like he had any sense of time, being cooped up in a very, very small world for his whole being. One day, as the saying goes at least, he just seemed to become aware, aware that he was living. Alive. What a strange feeling it was, really, to be alive. To not know anything, and then to suddenly realize that you were aware. Is that how it happened? He couldn't even remember.
Was now the time? He was beginning to feel rather restless just... hanging there watching the world pass by him and not even acknowledging his existence. Was it time to show his face, to flaunt the life that had been implanted in him? For the first time, he fidgeted around, pushing with his limbs, all four of them. Two in the front, two in the back. He was glad to find they both were easy to use, and the motions came naturally to him. He wriggled around, flipping, twisting, pulling, stretching until he heard a snap and felt a sudden rush of movement. It caused him draw a breath of air quickly, which was good because a moment later he had it knocked out of him. He hit something hard, and he notice a split in the casing of his cocoon.
For a moment a wave of fear struck him, and he just remained still, transfixed at the bright flood streaming through the small opening. Then fear was overtaken by excitement, and he struggled forward, pushing his head through the slit in all that he had known since the time he became aware.
It wasn't long before he had escaped his enclosure, and for the first time he realized how small it was. This new place was big, huge even. There was so much space! He had to blink his lavender eyes against the brightness of it all, a brightness that he noticed came from a big light in the sky. And for the first time he noticed the vividness of colors; everything was a different hue and shade. The ground beneath his paws was covered in soft, fur-like stuff. Its color was bright and lively, green.
He realized just how fully functional he was. He could move around with strange jerkings of his legs, though it was all natural. There was an itch in his throat, and he managed to open his mouth and make noise. It felt strange the first time, but he did it again and it felt like he'd been doing it his entire life.
Another thing he noticed was the wave of sound that he had crossed into as he slipped from his dark, safe bliss. He could hear things now, since the sounds were not blocked by the case of his cocoon. But there was something nagging the back of his mind, something that he couldn't let go of.
Now that he was out, what was he supposed to do?

Silva's fur was a glossy black color, so dark, it almost made her look like a shadow. The canine had pretty much managed walking. Move your paws, don't fall. That was pretty much all their was to it. Her short pelt was sleek and clean, with a light sheen on it form the nectar in her pod. Happily, she wandered up and down the area, following the glorious scents that she could detect with her nose.
She blinked too see another creature that smelled like she did. He was smaller then her, much smaller, and his shape told her they weren't exactly the same. A feline. She was a canine, and he was a feline. Silva knew this with certainty, though she couldn't say how. His fur was a ghosty silver color, almost the opposite of her own, and his eyes were lavender.
She walked over in a friendly fashion, reaching her head out to sniff the male more closely, blinking at him

A movement caught his eye, a larger, darker being. The scent the creature gave off was familiar, so he assumed that they were nearly the same, other than color and size. And he wasn't afraid of the larger being, either. In fact, he felt rather at ease in her presence. She approached in what he read as a peaceful manner, her dark-furred head stretching out to sniff him. He blinked back in response, his whiskers twitching in curiosity. If she smelled so similar, why was she so different?
Something in his mind piped up, something that seemed to be naturally wired there. She is a canine, while you are a feline, it said in a whisper, and he understood. There were different species, with their similarities and their differences. And despite their differences, he wasn't afraid of her. Was he supposed to be? And if he was, how would he know?
Speak to her, the whisper prompted, and for a fleeting moment, he was confused. Speak? How was one supposed to speak? However, something overtook his tongue, and it moved in a way that formed sounds, sounds he instantly recognized as words. These noises, language, intrigued him. It was so simple, yet so intricate, and this means of communication felt so natural.
"Hello," his words came in a breathy voice, rather high-pitched and feminine for a male. It was almost as if they were spoken by a ghost, which he rather resembled with his off-white fur and the dark rings around his eyes. He noticed how slender his features were compared to hers. His legs tapered down into dainty paws, and even his form was more slender than hers. If he tried, he could probably pass as a female.
In a fluid motion, he gathered his haunches and placed them to the ground so that he was sitting down. His tail neatly curled around his body and nestled itself over his paws, like a furry snake coiling around its master, all the while being at a leisurely sense of ease.

Silva blinked as the male suddenly made himself smaller. No, that wasn't it. He sat. Yes, he say. Her instincts took over and she did the same, pulling in her haunches, tail still wagging. At his words, she cocked her head in curiosity. He had made a noise....speaking. yes, that was speaking. Silva remembered trying that with some other creatures. Perhaps she could do it again. "Hellohello, I mean, hello" she corrected herself, lips curling over her teeth in a friendly grin, the last word blending into a yip. This small creature...this feline, looked interesting, sleeker and shorter.

The female sat down as well, her tail doing something odd. He had been expecting it to curl neatly around her paws as well, but instead it was flailing wildly, thrashing about like an animal that had a mind of its own. His lavender eyes sparkled with interest at it, as he watched it flick around. Something about the way it moved drew him to it, and he felt his eyes locked on it. A gentle sense of leaning forward was noted in his mind, and his paw lifted off the ground, poised in front of him. This squirming thing looked fun, oh so fun.
Suddenly, his paw shot out as if it had a mind of its own, lashing out at the canine's tail. Hooked claws unfurled from his paws, and he tried to draw it back, to stop the unwanted motion. He hoped he didn't hurt her tail; his claws looked really sharp. His tail tip flicked in irritation at his lack of self control. How could he do something like that at a time like this? He blinked up at her, an apologetic look in his eyes. He hoped she wouldn't take his playful bat at her tail to heart. He didn't want to make her mad or anything, the movement just happened, spurred on by the erratic beats of her tail.
He averted his eyes from her black fur and her tail, and instead studied his own calm tail. It was much different than hers, longer and thinner. It moved in a graceful, calculated manner, not in the quick, jumpy movements of hers. The coloration of the fur was also vastly different. Instead of a dark, inky color, his was a crisper shade, white. It wasn't completely pure, however, maybe a slight shade or two lighter than a bright white. Still, compared to her dark fur he seemed to shine like that big light in the sky.
"Yes, yes, hello," he breathed in reply, still not meeting her gaze. "I am terribly sorry for lashing out at your tail like that. I surely hope that I did not injure you in some way?" This last sentence was an inquiry, his tone pitching up at the end. He lifted a paw meekly in front of him, and flipped it over. He slid his claws out into the open, as if the show her. "I wasn't aware that I had these," he giggled, mostly to himself.

Silva gave a yip, jumping in surprise as the male's paw shot out at hers, catching hold of the fuzzy part of her tail. Almost before she knew it had happened, the male withdrew his paw, looking horrified. She blinked at him, curious.
At his words, Silva cocked her head slightly to the side. Oh, that pitching up in the end meant it was a question, didn't it. "It's okay" At his second statement, she blinked, looking at her own paw. Though Silva was a bit more smaller and petite then other canines, her paw was much bigger and bulkier then the canines, the four small claws already set firmly in their places. "How did you make your claws grow and shrink like that?" she tried flexing her own paw, to no avail.

The female made a startled noise. It caused his ears to slick back against his head, and he flinched back. It was rather unlike any of the noises he'd heard or made so far, sharp and quick. Don't be stupid, it was just a sound and it's gone now, he told himself. With a quick shake of his head to clear his ringing ears, he repositioned himself, his stance having been disrupted by the dog's yip.
Her head tilted to the side in an odd manned as he spoke, and he couldn't help but steal a worried glance. Was something the matter with her neck? He was just about to open his mouth to say something when he turned her attention to her own paw. He guessed that her neck was fine if she could move it like normal. He wouldn't want to worry over something that was probably nothing and make any more a fool of himself anyway.
He trailed his lavender eyes down to her paws to see what she was looking at. Like him, she had the same number of toes, though they were larger and not as petite as his. In fact, they looked very clumsy compared to his, and for a moment he wondered how she managed to not trip over such huge paws. Each toe had a claw like his did, except they were thicker and more blunt while his were sharp, thin and hooked.
"How did you make your claws grow and shrink like that?" She asked. Laurence blinked and looked up at her. Did that mean her claws stayed the way they were all the time? He would have thought these disappearing claws were on every creature he would meet, feline and canine.
"Oh. I, uhm, don't know," he answered lamely, shrugging apologetically. "It just happened," he added. He flexed his paw again, and the sharp nails disappeared and then reappeared once more. His tail tip twitched in amusement, but then he remembered the female before him. He looked up at her, his face growing hot with embarrassment. He quickly placed his paw on the ground. He wouldn't want to upset her by flaunting his ability to make his claws appear and disappear at will, especially because she couldn't do it as well.

[[white's a really hard color to read. Maybe make it something else?]]
Silva blinked, then grinned, the smile spreading across her face "Maybe its just something males can do and females can't ro something. anyhoo, it's really cool!" again, her tail wagged.
Speaking of tails, she had never really payed much attention to hers. It seemed to move of its own accord, reflecting her feelings. If she concentrated just right, she could move it, but she felt that she had no urge to. It could handle itself.
The feline's tail, on the other paw, intrigued her. It quietly lay wrapped around his paws instead of wagging like hers did.
As she noticed this, Silva took in the other details of the silver coated stranger. What really got her attention was the extra long fur that grew in thin stands out of the side of his face...whiskers, the word popped into her head. Did she have whiskers? she tried staring, cross-eye, at her own nose, disappointing to not see any. Ah well.
Again, she spoke "Oh well, it doesn't matter. Anyhoo, did I tell you my name yet? It was Silva. Nice meeting you"
