"Wheeee, I love swimming!" The aboriginal canine Fox splashed into the river, laughing as his longer fur was soaked through. The water was cold, but the day was warm and Fox found the coolness pleasant and enjoyable, not that he found anything un-enjoyable. He had matured some in the past year, though not so much that he couldn't enjoy a good romp in the water. And no one could disagree with how wonderful the River Garden was this time of year- if he were a feline, he would be purring by now.
Growing tired of swimming against the current, Fox waded into a shallower patch of water. There was a heavy amount of mud at the bottom and the canine wiggled his paws, appreciating the cool soft feel of mud on his fur. He shook his fur out eagerly, spraying water everywhere as he burrowed his paws deeper in the soft river-bottom mud. Gosh this was a nice feeling.
Well, back to swimming time! Fox crouched, prepared to dive back into the deeper waters- and found he couldn't. His paws were stuck fast! Yelping in surprise, the canine wiggled and barked, completely at a loss for how he had managed to get himself into this mess.

I'M A THIEF IN THE NIGHT;; i'm your bandit!!
The merle female moved with abandonment through the lands. Her body carried her well, slender legs graceful and long, perfect for the loping pace she had set for herself. The wind that caressed her softly smelled of summer, and her normal sour mood was lifted by the perfect blue sky above her, unmarred by clouds, the sun hanging above her head like a drop of shining amber. It was impossible, even for her, to be angry or mean or sad on a day such as this. These days made her glad to be alive! Of course, the sun above her also beat down intensely, and her coat was holding in unnecessary amounts of heat, and she was, in a word, parched.
Bandit trotted along the gravelly shore of the river, looking for a relatively deep patch of water in which she could both clean her dusty pelt and quench her excessive thirst. A single high-pitched yelp careened into her consciousness, and her muscles all tensed as it was followed by several other barks and generally unpleasant noises. Although earlier she was sure nothing could dampen her mood, she was proved wrong. If whomever it was needed help, she would help them, for the sheer need to have silence to revel in. This barking couldn’t go on much longer or she would go insane – or more insane than she already was.

After a few minutes more of unsuccessful attempts at wriggling out of the mud, Fox finally stopped panting and crouched down slightly, tongue rolling out to hang between his open jaws as he panted lightly. He was still stuck fast, but this didn't really register as worry in the canine's mind, merely another fun challenge to work through. He sniffed inquisitively at the mud once more, tail still wagging slowly, and gave another low yip as he considered how he might get out of this mess.
The babbling of the river was pretty loud, and Fox was pretty sure he wasn't making things any better by his yipping, but still his ears were able to pick up the scuffling of paws on rock. He looked up to spot a female canine padding down the rocks near where he was. He paused a moment to regard with fascination her multicolored fur, surprised that such a variety of pretty colors could come together like that on one coat. He stared a few moments before breaking out into a wide grin, jaw opening as he smiled at the stringer, tail wagging. Briefly forgetting his situation, the canine uttered another friendly yelp of greeting. "Hiya!"

The femme found the source of the barking with relative ease – it wasn’t exactly hard to pinpoint in a world where the only other noises were that of leaves rustling in the breeze and her own toe nails scraping against the pebbles beneath her feet. Upon finding the creature (who, it appeared, was a canine, and male), Bandit rolled her eyes. Of course he would find a way to do something as stupid as get stuck in mud. There were plenty of things to get stuck in – quick sand, lava, a whirlpool, just to name a few – and this idiotic creature got stuck in plain old mud, just dirt and water mixed together? She heaved a sigh to show how big of an inconvenience it would be if she were to assist in the animal’s endeavor to free itself, adding in a roll of her eyes for dramatic effect.
"First of all, you insufferable creature, if you want any help, you have to stop barking. I cannot think with your doltish yipping and yapping and yelping filling my head. Thus, do not expect me to speak to you. I will aid you in getting out of the mud only under those circumstances. Do you understand?!”
The female stamped her foot impatiently. Even if the canine didn’t agree to her terms, she knew she would end up getting sucked into the project anyways. She was much too kind for her own taste. [/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - status: complete tagged: fox {meesh} words: 241 notes: Sleepy post is sleepy! Also, Bandit is a witch.

Fox snapped his jaws shut together quickly, seemingly confused by the female's annoyed tone. The confusion was brief, however, and his tail simply remained wagging throughout as his jaws opened again in another lazy grin. "Well you're gonna help me out? Gosh, that's the nicest of you! I really appreciate the help- my paws are stuck fast and I'm not really sure what to do." The canine gave a little (totally undignified) giggle, not embarrassed in the slightest over his situation. He opened his mouth to say something else before realization quickly dawned in his eyes. "Oh, but you don't want me talking at you, right. Hmm, but if we don't talk, how are we gonna figure things out? Or how are we gonna meet each other properly. My name's Fox" The canine would have given a play-bow of greeting, were he able to move. "Nice to meetcha! Also....any clue how I can get unstuck?"

Bandit closed her eyes, her muscles tensing in annoyance. Her shoulders began to roll forward, preparing her for a fight, before she took a shaky breath to steady herself. “I said I would help you under the condition that you stayed quiet. If you would please respect my wishes so that you can get out of here and we can part ways, that would be absolutely fantastic.” The vehemence with which she said the last word implied that their current situation was much less than fantastic. “I TOLD YOU TO SHUT UP!” The female’s voice pierced the veil of oh-so temporary silence as the canine began to speak again. “If you do not speak, then I can actually think of a way to get you out, as opposed to just trying random solutions. That being said, you have to be quiet. I don’t care what sort of thoughts cross your imbecile brain, it is imperative that you stay silent long enough to let me think.” The femme blew out a heavy sigh, shaking her head at the other in her company. He couldn’t even follow simple instructions – no wonder he got stuck in the mud.

Fox's tail-wagging slowed for just a fraction of a moment. Oh dear, now the girl canine was sad. He didn't want her to be sad! He opened his mouth to give some sort of confirmation- then quickly snapped his jaws together, nodding in agreement instead. Him doing what she wanted him to do would make her less sad, right? A fallen branch caught the canine's eye and he blinked, staring up at it. It was just a few yards out of Fox's reach, half-submerged in the river while the other half was stuck in the foliage. It would work perfectly if the female to pull fox out, or even for the canine to pry himself loose if he could just reach it, but even from here he could tell that it was unreachable by him at the moment.
Well that meant he just had to get the girl to noticed it! Well, he could do that. Heedful of the other canine's warning not to speak, Fox wiggling and jabbed his snout in the direction of the branch. Seeing that his silent wiggling wasn't causing much attention, he let out a quick whine- making noises wasn't talking, right? Again the canine jabbed his snout towards the fallen tree branch, nearly falling over for his efforts.

I'M A THIEF IN THE NIGHT;; i'm your bandit!!
Blissful sweet silence washed over her, and for just a bit Bandit could think. She withdrew into her brain, thinking of everything and anything she knew that could help with the current predicament. Mud was a mix of dirt and water. Add more dirt, it became thicker, more resistance. Don’t add dirt, then, add water. How to get the water from the river to the mud patch? She could kick it, but that would soak the canine, and though Bandit disliked her current companion, and the cold water might be welcome on this warm day, she didn’t want to anger the canine by getting him wet. Moss, maybe? Yes, if she could find enough moss to carry the water from the river to the patch of mud, that could work.
She was brought out of her deep state of thinking by a soft whine from the other creature. Her eyes shot daggers, and she was about to start yelling again when she noticed what he was frantically gesturing at. It was a fallen tree branch. One that, should she hold one end and he the other, could pull him out. Bandit considered it for a moment. She was strong, yes, but strong enough to pull out a canine who was probably heavier than her? Yes, she could do it, she decided, especially if that meant she could leave and enjoy the day. She grabbed the thicker end of the branch with her teeth and pushed the other into the mud pool, gesturing for the canine to grab on, all the while preparing to pull.

Fox wiggled in excitement as he saw that the female had understood his gesturing. He was a master of charades, the best there ever was! The canine took a few moments to celebrate this victory before he realized that she was poking a stick at him. Oh right, the branch! Fox hadn't even noticed that the female had gone over and grabbed it while he was distracted. Wagging his tail in delight, Fox clamped onto the branch with his jaws and tugged, nearly yanking the other into the water. Belatedly, the canine realized that he wasn't the one who was supposed to be doing the pulling. He gave Bandit an apologetic grin, teeth still clamped down on the branch.
Once he saw that she had a firm grip on the branch as well, Fox resumed his wiggling as she pulled, attempting to loosen himself from the mud. Sure enough, with their combined efforts, a soaked muddy paw slowly began to free itself of the mud, making a squelchy sound as it emerged. Fox wriggled in absolute delight at this success, and soon enough, the rest of him was out of the mud and onto dry land.
Giving a yip of joy, Fox leaped towards the other canine, attempting to give her a nuzzle and a lick on the snout. "Oh thank you thank you thank you!" he yipped, overjoyed.
(Hope you din't mind I just assumed she started pulling <3 sort of a bluh quality post, I was tired :c)
