A soft whimper echoed into the air as a tawny brown husky canine struggled into wakefulness. He shook his head, making his ears flop about wildly before settling back to their limp, half raised position. His pink, wet nose sniffed the air curiously as barely opened eyes adjusted slowly to the sudden brightness of the world. It was cool and humid here. The soft cries of other young creatures emerging from their cocoons filled the air.
Tallik struggled to his feet and took one, two, three daring steps before tumbling back down to earth. He huffed and gave a slightly pain filled whimper before pushing himself back to his feet.

A stocky black female canine with tall white stockings on her hind legs,a white muzzle, and a short, almost-bobbed tail walked over to the husky canine. Her mouth was naturally curved and looked like a smile on her snub-nosed face. "Are you okay? You look hurt." She stared at the small tawny brown shape. "What's your name? Your name is like what you think of yourself,or maybe the first thought in your head or after the color of your pelt-I'm Ghost." The black fur seemed to absorb what light was in the orchard while the white seemed to reflect it. She didn't look too much older than the husky canine; maybe an hour older, but that was it.

Tallik blinked towards the voice. It sounded calm and caring. Trustworthy. It wanted his name! What... what was his name? He though for a moment. After several seconds of thinking he looked into her eyes, gaining a slight shudder at the beauty of her eyes before he uttered "Taaaaah... leek. My name is Tallik." His voice was strangely deep for a puppy--would be considered high pitched and childish for an adult, but for his age, it was deep. He froze as a strangely itchy sensation came forth from the back of his muzzle. After about two seconds, his nose exploded into an extremely adorable sneeze that ended in a slight squeak.

"It's nice to meet you Tallik." Ghost nosed Tallik, trying to get him up. She was still wondering about where she was, but decided she'd try to show him what she knew. "Do you want me to show you around?" She asked. Her eyes flickered in wonder as she tried to decide what to show him. She decided she'd show him a thorn first, to make sure he never, ever stepped on one. She walked to a random thorn and barked, "Never, ever step on one of these. They hurt." To make sure he knew, she touched her nose to it. She winced a little bit, but she wouldn't want anyone hurt!

The canine flattened his ears as she winced. Pain, huh? He trusted that she knew what she was doing, and that the thorn was something to be avoided, he waited a moment for her eyes to look for the next thing to show him. With a crazed smile, he lunged towards the thorn and poked at it with his paw. He clenched his teeth and stifled a yelp of pain. He quickly pulled it out of the soft pad before she turned and noted him hurt. He spat it out a few feet away before limping towards Ghost, giving his best face to hide the pain.

Ghost turned around and smelled something; blood! He must have touched it. She looked wildly around for a cobweb and found one in the middle of the air, being whipped by the wind. What she didn't notice was the black thing at the end. She felt something crawl onto her right paw as she grasped the cobweb with her two front paws. She looked down and tried to eat it. She spat it out. "Spiders are disgusting-don't eat one." She told Tallik. She pressed the remainder of the cobweb onto Tallik's paw. "Did you poke the thorn?" She questioned the little husky canine.

He gave a small, quiet confirmation whimper. He lifted his paw and turned it over. Sure enough, a small drop of ruby red blood showed itself. The drop glistened and reflected the light of the Orchard strangely. Tallik's ears pricked upwards, as much as the young cartilage in them could hold them up, which was admittedly not very much. He lowered his snout and gave the paw a sniff. Metallicy. Like copper... The scent was strangely warm and intriguing. He licked away the drop and not even a whole second passed before another took its place. The blood tasted like a mix of metal, fear and excitement. Hopefully this won't become a taste he comes to enjoy.

Ghost wrapped the cobweb around Tallik's paw. The silk shone in the sunlight. "Can you walk?" Ghost asked. "If you can walk, you are probably close to healing. If you can't even stand up, then I'd come to say the situation is quite dark." Ghost looked at the paw worriedly. She had to admit, she liked healing others. It made her feel like she was important. I hope he's okay. She thought. She scanned the place for flexible sticks. She saw a stick and walked to it and started to bend it with her paws. "I wonder what this could be used for...." She asked herself.

Slowly, the husky tested the paw on the ground. At the first point of contact, it stung, but quickly went away. He slowly added the pressure of the rest of his body onto the paw. It stung a bit, like walking on a blister, but the pain was quite bearable. He took a step, the stinging process beginning all over again but quickly fading. Tallik followed Ghost closely, making sure to pay more attention to her words next time she warns him away from something. After all, she did warn him off of the thorn, but he ignored her and did what he wanted to anyways. She might be young, but she was older than him, even if by only a little bit.

Ghost looked back and saw Tallik following her. She smelled water! She was thirsty, and she had been looking for a river for awhile now. She approached it, and it flowed much like River's pelt. "This is a river. Drink from it and you won't be thirsty anymore! I'll show you the tree I was born in next!" She lapped a bit of water, and she was eventually slurping it up. It felt cool like snow in the winter. No-it was snow in the winter! She looked up, finished with the water. "I wouldn't go too deep in it though-it could be fast." Her instincts told her it was fast-she didn't want to scare Tallik though, so she had said 'could be'.

His dark chocolate eyes surveyed the waters. They moved swiftly and fiercely. He wanted to challenge those rapids, but he heeded Ghost's warning. He was cautious as he approached the water, sniffing it curiously before lapping up several mouthfuls of the pure, clear liquid that tasted of snow and ice. It soothed the dryness of his throat quite nicely. He was soon quenched of his thirst and sat down on the sandy bank. This area was quite peaceful. He was already in love with the world. He gave a wide mouthed yawn and shook his head, once again sending his still floppy ears into the jiggles.

Ghost looked at Tallik. "Go ahead and rest if you'd like. But we need to go soon. I'm sure there is more out there, waiting to be discovered. Who knows how far the world stretches. It could be round, or flat, or anything." Ghost was tired and wondered where she could rest. She walked under a tree and sat down. The cool breeze blew through her fur, with the scent of autumn in it-still smelling of life, but smelling like snow and hail at the same time. So many new words! How many were out there? Oops-another random thought! She told herself.

Tallik tilted his head to the side before following the dark canine to the tree. He sat down beside her, giving another yawn. He looked upwards, to the sky which was a beautiful azure color with giant puffy white cotton clouds dancing across it. He curled up, his back pressing gently against her as he gave a huff of exhaustion and closed his eyes. He flicked an ear and shifted position slightly before letting sleep start to take hold of him. The warmth of the afternoon and the comfort of the cool breeze paired with the quiet calm of the Orchard was enough to send anyone into instant dreams.

Ghost looked at the river. The sound of rushing water was soothing and calming. The sky was turning into a nice yellow-orange and pink sunset. Vibrant purple streaks soared through certain spots in the sky, making the sky a beautiful rainbow. As the sun set, she concentrated on other things. Should she take Tallik with her? She would like to have a group of animals to travel with. Should she go to the Blue Plain, or the Maple Forest? Should she take the path of a healer? Yes, that was what she would do. She would become a healer. But, where would Tallik go if she died? Well, hopefull that was a long way from now. Ghost stayed awake all night, planning on where she should go. When the sun rose, she nudged Tallik. "Tallik-wake up-it's time to explore again!"

The husky pup blinked sleepily and slowly raised his head. "Hm?" He yawned as he rose to a sitting position. His dark chocolate eyes scanned the area, assessing that a day had passed. The sky was slowly going from dark to grey until a brilliant orb of yellowish light poked its way through the horizon. He stretched and shook himself. "Morning, Ghost." He chirped cheerily. "Where are we off to now?" The other newly born canines and felines were still getting used to walking and talking, but Tallik was ready--or at least thought he was--to see the world and know its secrets.
