Truthfully, it hadn't been that long since the new born had come into this world from his cocoon, and he was still getting his bearings in this new world as well as exploring a bit in the process. As far as he knew about his location, he was in a giant gathering of trees. Orchard. He thought as the words came into his head, seeming perfect to describe such a place. His paw lead his around this place, as if exploring on their own, with his mind only interjecting every once in a while when he saw others who were also exploring this place. Most likely, Amoux began to think, They have to be like me, just recently coming from these cocoons. It seemed like a sound enough explanation to him, but he wasn't sure if was ready to come in contact with any of these others yet, and most definitely not these groups of others he had been seeing.
The male's paw steps had lead him to the base of one of the many trees that lay in the orchard. His eyes scanned over it quickly, his brain soon figuring out that this one was much like the one that had hosted the pod he had hatched out of, though it was not the same one, he was sure of that. Amoux knew very well that he was far from the pod he had hatched out of, his mind going over the path he had took over the short period he had been here, telling him that he had not circled back around to where he had started.
Amoux's eyes continued to go over the tree that looked so much like the one he had hatched from, thinking it strange that he took so much interest in it and really couldn't figure out a reason why. Hmm... The male thought for a second, sitting down on his haunches for the first time since hatching, I wonder if another like me will hatch from a pod on this tree soon . . . or maybe later . . . or maybe an other. His mind pondered these thought, not coming up with much of an answer to give him.
For now, The male thought, I will wait. He wasn't much sure of what to do and where to go and he still felt a bit uneasy about the others who walked in orchard along with him. So he figured waiting had to be the best option. Maybe if another hatched from this tree, or one of the surrounding ones, he could better trust them and the two could try and figure out stuff. "Two heads are better than one." Amoux spoke out loud as the thought popped into his head, his own voice startling him a bit as he analyzed the sound, voicing out his names several times before falling silent again. His mind went back to going over his plan confirming to him that it was a pretty good idea, though shadows of doubt quickly feel upon the male as he began to think that the whole thing was probably unlikely. Nonetheless, Amoux stretched out his front limbs, laying down his body for the first time as he wait for something, anything (well just about anything), to happen.

The orchard was quickly becoming less mysterious to Miri than it was during the first moments after her birth, but it was none the less fascinating. There seemed to be three types of trees, each with a different appearance and bearing cocoons like the one she had come from in the beginning. Looking at them now as she prowled in between roots and tree trunks, the little canine wondered if the appearance of a tree had anything to do with the nature of the creature who was born from it. She had no reason to suspect that any of the creatures she'd seen today had any other parent besides their trees to influence their characteristics.
Suddenly her right forepaw caught in a root, and she fell onto her chin in the grass. Gah, she thought. Ever since hatching she'd been getting better at moving about, but every once in a while she would get distracted and manage to end up falling on her face. This was one reason she had been avoiding the many creatures who had been born and were quickly forming groups within the orchard -- it was hard enough thinking of things to say to them without falling over on the way.
Another tree dropped a pod to the ground somewhere to her right, so Miri pushed back up to her feet and disentangled herself from the offending root. So as to avoid detection by this new individual she moved quickly in the opposite direction. It was the first time she'd tried anything faster than walking, and doing so now was both exhilarating and slightly too free-moving to feel quite stable.
Before she knew what was happening, Miri collided with something soft -- a canine like herself, judging by the short look she got before she'd managed to stop her momentum fully. This one must have been sitting very quietly before she had interrupted his reverie, for she had not detected him at all until she rounded the nearest tree trunk and it was too late to slow down.
She dug her paws into the dirt and saved herself from another embarrassing tumble, but nonetheless her cheeks heated up as they had been doing today far too frequently for her liking.
"I'm sorry," she spoke softly as she turned to face the young canine victim of her new and clumsy legs. "This is my first time...walking." The last word was uttered lamely, for there was no better explanation that could come to one so young and flustered. She hoped that the stranger would understand that she'd hatched very recently and had been doing her best to learn on her own.

The male eyes were slowly closing shut, his mind, for the first time, beginning to enter a dreamy state, shutting him off from the outside world and it's happening. Just a second before he entered this dream world, a sound entered his receptive ears, alerting his enough to jostle his awake. Being a recently new newborn his mind was still a bit slow at processing things, and added to that, Amoux found that his mind was a bit groggy from being about to enter the dream world. His ears flicked back and forth, not able to match the sound with anything familiar, but really he had only had about five seconds before it would hit him, literally.
The canine was brought to his feet, not as much as because of impact, but more from surprise than anything else. Whatever had collided with him had been about his size, warm, and soft . . . It was then that it hit him. Another like me? Amoux pondered, turning about to face the creature as it spoke, his eyes scanning over the form to prove his hypothesis correct. His mind was able to then, finally, connect the sound that he heard from before. "Footsteps." He spoke out loud, though it was more to himself. "It was footsteps that I had heard." The male's mind went back to the canine that stood before him, the hair on his back standing on end due to instinct for this was an unfamiliar being to him.
Amoux's paws moved backwards, opposite in the direction of the other canine, stumbling a bit in his footing, but not stopping until he was a couple more feet away from stranger. The hair on his back settled as he took more comfortable stance, not wanting to look as if her were cowering or trying to attack the other. It was only a moment later that he determined the stranger to be female, opposite of him, which was male. His eyes stayed on the female, unsure of her intentions, as she spoke. I wonder if she is a new born like me, or maybe if she has been around here longer. His thoughts pondering, though soon his question was answered.
An uncontrollably grin came across his face as she finished speaking. Something amusing Amoux about the others embarrassing and flustered state, something that seemed sincere enough that it calmed him a bit in her presence and he didn't feel quite so nervous about being around another being, though he knew he still had to be cautious. A small chuckle came from his lips, meaning to comfort the female a bit in showing her to not be so embarrassed and flustered about her current state, because he himself was going through to same experience.
"It's okay." Amoux spoke softly and slowly, though there was a bit of caution in his voice. It was the first time he had heard his voice aloud, besides talking to himself a handful of times, and speaking to another. Another smile came upon his muzzle. "If you couldn't tell already, it's the same for me as well." He wasn't sure why he didn't just tell the female he had hatched not too long ago, but something seemed strange to him about saying it out loud. It was as if he was uncertain if every creature here came into this world the same as him, or by other means. If it was the later and he had spoken aloud of his coming into this world, he was afraid the female would look at him and deem his crazy, which he was sure he was not.
There was a moment of silence between himself and other, Amoux unsure of what else to say when meeting another. "So . . ." The canine spoke slowly again as he gathered his thoughts. "What are you called by?" The last few words of his sentence seemed hesitant, as if he was unsure of whether it was too much of a personal question or not, but he really would like to able to put a name to the female rather than call her by something like 'female' or 'other' or 'stranger', though she was all of those things.

There was something, some sort of instinct in Miri's mind that had driven her to embarrassment over her clumsiness. It definitely wasn't pleasant, though, and so she was relieved when the male pup didn't react negatively to her explanation. In fact he smiled, which caused her to allow a slight smile to come to her mouth as well.
"My name is Miri," she answered, having learned this truth while still in her tree pod. "What's yours?"
As she introduced herself, Miri noted the male's posture. He didn't seem quite comfortable talking to her, but neither did he seem annoyed by her presence. She wasn't yet sure what to make of that...however, it seemed like a good idea to continue talking to this pup at any rate. Perhaps he could even tell her more about this orchard! Her ears perked up slightly at the thought.
"Oh," she said as a new idea struck her. Perhaps she should share some of what she had learned already with the male. That way, even if he hadn't been in the orchard for long he could at least tell her his opinion of it all. "Have you learned about hunting for food yet?" she inquired, genuinely curious. When she had first hatched the adult canines had told her about being hungry and needing to eat, but she had yet to learn the particulars. What was she supposed to hunt, anyway? Something called a rabbit had been described, but Miri had yet to see one herself.

Amoux stood there now, a slightly nervousness in stance able to be slightly visible as he waited for the female's response. He was still unsure if it was an appropriate thing to ask the female or if she would be offended. I really do doubt it though. The thought relaxed him a bit. This female seemed as if would be so quick to pounce if he had asked such a simple, and honestly not too prying, question. The fact of this eased him further, the nervousness slipping from him again.
The male nodded with a sigh of relief as he heard the female canine speak her name for the first time to him. He shouldn't have been too worried about this simple thing, but I guess the only excuse he had was that he was born this way and that was that. "Miri." He spoke softly out loud, testing out her name as he said it for the first time. It was at that moment, a second before actually, that Amoux heard Miri ask him for his own name, and him speaking out Miri's made it seem as if that was his reply. "Oh sorry." He said with an embarrassed grin. "I meant to say my name is Amoux."
The canine was able to notice Miri's perked ears as he finished telling her his name. I wonder what is on her mind. He thought, and strangely, it didn't seem to bother him much like he thought it should. Amoux began to notice that he was beginning to get used to the company of another and didn't feel quite and wary or cautious, or even really nervous at all. The male's ears perked when he heard the female begin to speak again, his curiosity wondering what she had to say.
Though he had heard the female's words clearly, what she had said puzzled him greatly in so many ways. He had yet to learn about hunger and eating, but as he heard the words, the simple instincts of needing to consume other, smaller, beings came to him. Despite his natural instincts, he was not very sure about how to go about this whole business of hunting. "I'm sorry, but you are the other have met so far and I've only hatch not too long ago." His words were slow and apologetic, not sure what else to say to Miri besides what he had just said. Either way, his mind pondered for a couple minute more, when and idea suddenly came to him. "Though I'm not sure how to do it, I'm sure if we work together and put our heads together, I'm sure we can figure it out." His words seemed a bit too excited, but nonetheless, his tail wagged a bit at the idea as he awaited Miri's response.
