He felt cramped. His pod was too small. It trapped him now instead of sheltering him. What had once been comforting and peaceful was now distressing. He was squeezed into a fetal position is body crushed together. His heart beat hard as the blood rushed through his bloodstream with the adrenalin. He couldn't move or struggle it was too small. He hated this awareness for shattering his slumber. His thought were filled with bitterness at his ability to think. Suddenly he, he heard something?
A sudden ripping sound filled his ear before the sound of rushing blood and his heart thumping took over. He felt, what he thought was cold. He had the sensation of falling and his body spasms in the air in terror. He hated this feeling and just wanted it to go away. This thing called fear his mind supplied right before he hit the ground with a thud.
The air that he had inhaled in his descent rushed out of his lungs. It was a feeling called pain. He didn't like this feeling. Why did all the bad luck happen to him, Kyran? Wait what did Kyran mean? Realization flooded through him. It was his name! A happy whine escaped past his jaws. He attempted to stand up in his delight. However he couldn't make it his legs were much to wobbly. Sighing he lay down in the grass stretch out. He had, had enough of curling up for now. His body and breathing relaxed as he drifted into sleep.

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
It has not been but a few days since she woke to light. Her paws are still unsteady at times, overly large it seems, though she is rapidly growing used to them, growing into them. She has learned of water, that it is good to drink, but not to breathe, and that it is cool to burning feet, though when deep it is fast flowing and dangerous. She has learned to catch small things to eat, bugs, rodents, birds, though the larger prey still eludes her. She hopes one day to discover how to capture one of those fleet footed hare or even the lanky deer she sees from time to time.
She also wonders about the others she sees in this haven of trees. Others like herself, others not like herself. She thinks for a time, and the words come to her, canines and felines. She is hesitant about the felines; they seem so small she fears she may hurt them simply by stepping on them. But other canines, perhaps she might make a... friend, yes, that is the word, a friend or two. But she is unsure of how to approach a stranger; simply stepping up to them and stating "Hi" might be considered rude, and she surely did not want to appear that way. Perhaps it would be better to wait until another approached her? Then she would be able to respond correctly.
She found herself deep in these thoughts as she approached a pod tree. Lost in how she should properly address a stranger, she didn't notice the dark coated canine sleeping in the shadows. Not until she tripped over a root, losing her footing and rolling to a stop nearby his nest. She gathered herself as quickly as she could, hoping she had not awakened the sleeping one. It would have been quite rude of her to do so, especially in the manner by which she had.

Kyran jump awake startled. He had sprung up so fast he was momentarily standing only on his back paws, however he then overbalanced and was sent crashing down onto his back. He la there momentarily stunned and extremely confused. Snatches of his birth flashed through his mind falling, fear, and the awful pain. His body was still slightly sore but not too bad, the sleep had helped. He was now aware again. No that was not what he was trying to Say, he somehow knew he was always aware, no he was...awake? Yes that was it, and he had been sleeping. Such strange words but he rather liked them.
Then he realized what had, woken him, standing there was a canine? Much like himself. Actually he didn't know much about what he looked like. Shaking his head he rolled over so he was on his back. He tried to stand up then. However his legs felt like jelly. He managed to sit down. Then he looked down wanting to see himself. He was white? No looking at more off himself he turned his head to see his tail and rest of his body. He was multi-colored. The white turned to gray and the gray turned to a pitch black. He had to say he was rather handsome. However he was probably being, egotistical? It was something close to that anyway. He could tell his front legs were slightly shorter though. It made him feel like he was, well he didn't know. He was curios at what color his eyes were but he would find that out later.
He then turned his attention to what had woken him again. The canine in front of him was beautiful. He loved her eyes. He had decided with the one being red and the other brown. Her marking were very cute as well. Then he did the best smile a dog could do and surprised himself by talking, "Hello." His voice was rather scratchy and hoarse and is rather hurt his throat to talk. However he liked the feeling. he felt an extreme urge of wanting, that this female would talk to him as well.

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
Tsuki winced as the sleeping canine leapt up into the air. She had awoken him, and it seemed that he was still young, as he had difficulty regaining his footing after he landed. She lowered her head, ears back in shame at having disturbed him so. She watched silently as he righted himself, then tipped her head in curiosity as he seemed to study himself. Could it be that he had never encountered another yet? It made sense; she remembered having done the same when she first caught sight of others, wanting to know if every living thing looked the same or if they were different.
She found herself blushing again as his appraisal turned to her. The smile was friendly, though, and she soon relaxed, settling into a sitting position as he had and curling her silver brindled tail around her paws. She was trying to think of the best way to talk to this stranger, when he spoke first. A simple word, but it is a beginning. She wondered that his voice sounded rough, but then, perhaps it had never been used before. She shuffled a bit, then, realizing the silence was stretching long, she took a breath and responded back.
"Hello. I must apologize for waking you. I was simply not paying attention." The embarrassed look returned to her face as she said this, her head dipped down and ears back. She hoped that he would not become angry at her. He seemed quite pleasant, and she thought perhaps this one might be the first friend she would make in this new world.

His tail shook in pleasure as she talked. She had spoken and the sound sounded like music. Something else had spoken to him! Still she acted slightly strange with her ears going down, as well as her head. The word and feeling embarrassed came to mind. Oh well that was silly to think she was embarrassed. Her voice sounded much better than his. He saw what she did with her tail and quickly attempted to copy it. He found you couldn't tell you body to move you had to just do it. Hm oh well moving was something you just had to do, you couldn't think about it.
Oh wait he was ignoring her! He realized with a shock. Much, too much daydreaming. He remembered her words and thought hard as to how too reply. The words came to mind. "It..it is fine." He finally managed to say. His voice was still rough and a little shaky, a little hesitant. "It must be, easy to miss me if I was laying down. My," His voice stopped here as he had to think of the word and his face scrunched up in confusion, "pelt!" he suddenly exclaimed so excited he didn't finish his sentence right away. "My pelt must be hard to see in the shadows." He finally continued.
"May I ask you something?" He suddenly amusingly asked. He really wanted to find out what color his eyes were and he was sure she could tell him. "Oh and also my name is Kyran." he suddenly added as he remembered his name and knew it was polite to tell somebody his name. Call it instinct. He gave a large smile his head tilted to the side.

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
Her concern eased as his tail flipped in a faint wag. A faint smile graced her face as he mimicked her actions, though with some difficulty at first. She quickly tried to hide it; she would not want him to think she was laughing at him, even though what had brought the smile was the memory of learning on her own where everything was and how it moved and worked. But the smile returned as he gave a start, and perhaps with even a faint flush of embarrassment of his own, spoke again.
She nodded slowly as he spoke. Indeed, if not for his white belly that now flashed in the light, she would not know he was even there, so dark was his fur. She was about to say something in response, when he spoke once again, this time with a questioning tone. As she was thinking of her reply, he quickly added his name, with a wide grin following. The grin made her feel safe, and as she thought of her reply, a touch of humor went into it.
"I am called Tsukikage, although Tsuki is shorter, so if you like you may call me that as well. And I think you just did ask me a question, but I would be happy to answer any question you have, that I am able to answer that is. I am only recently awakened myself, so it may be that we will have to search to find out your answers." The last bit of this speech had been said without thought, and as she went over what she said, she worried.
Hopefully, she had not been friendly, and not forward. She wouldn't want to be misunderstood so soon after meeting this friendly canine.

Ky momentarily looked puzzled as he thought over the question he had wanted to ask. His mind was racing with so many thoughts. "That is a wonderful name. I think I'll call you Tsuki, and for short you may call me Ky." He smiled faintly again before suddenly remembering his question, Ok my question is, what color are my eyes?" His face was open and had a naive cute appearance as he wondered what color his eyes were. He didn't know why but for some reason this question seemed of the utmost importance.
His mind suddenly wandered to the color of his fur. Yes, he rather liked the dark color it was. Black he decided, was one of his favorite colors. The white was slightly blinding in the sun and the gray made the two blend together quite nicely. However he hoped his eye color would blend in with his pelt. Tsuki's unique eyes fit perfectly with her coloring. However he was aware of an empty feeling in his stomach. He would have to ask Tsuki if she knew how to fix this feeling as well as the dry burning in his throat.
He payed attention to Tsuki but his gaze took in the area. There were giant trees everywhere with pods hanging off of them. That is what he had came from. He thought with longing, wanting slightly to go back to his. However then he would not have met Tsuki. Already he felt a tenderness for her. This feeling meant that they were...friends he hoped. After all she seemed very nice, and she had similar colors to him.

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
She could not help but smile at his easygoing nature, and earnest innocence. 'Is that how I am, or at least, how I was when I first awakened?' she mused to herself as she listened to him. She nodded as he gave her a shorter name to call him, though she thought she would probably still call him Kyran, at least at first. She waited as he seemed to think to himself, then almost laughed as he asked his question. "They are red, like one of my own," she said softly, a grin on her face and amusement in her voice.
As she said this, she heard a faint rumble from his belly, and realized he must be hungry. She thought that it would not be too forward to comment, as it was possible that he did not know how to hunt yet. "Perhaps you would like to get something to eat?" she asked. "Or to drink maybe," she added, remembering the roughness of his voice. "There is a pond nearby we can get water from, and then maybe we can find something to fill our bellies?"
She had already noticed him looking around, which was good. It meant he was alert and paying attention to everything around him. She also saw the faint longing in his eyes as he looked back to the trees and their pods. She remembered how hard it had been to leave her own tree, but she also knew that the world had many things in it to see and explore. She hoped that Kyran would soon learn this as well, and that he would enjoy life as it was now.

Kyran's face lit up as she told him the color of his eyes. i bet the red practically glows against the black. He though gleefully. Again they shared something in common, at least they both had red. He was glad at last to know the color of his eyes. Now his image of himself was complete. However he was slightly saddened for some unknown reason, oh well best to think why later. Then he realized she was talking again and turned alert, to face her.
"Eat? Drink?" he echoed her, confusion filling his face. He felt a slight understanding come to him as she said water. Oh yes and he would very much like to fill his belly. "Okay that sounds fantastic!" he exclaimed wagging his tail in excitement. He slowly stood up. For some reason he felt unbalanced. Then he remembered his front legs were shorter. The way it caused him to stand made him look like a wary stray dog or a wolf that was about to attack. He didn't know this but it did give him a dangerous look. He lifted his head up slightly so it wasn't lowered, and it changed it slightly making him seem just a little wary not dangerous.
"So this pond thing with water, and eating. it will take away this strange empty felling and rough feeling in my throat and belly?" He wanted to make sure this was correct. Everything was so confusing and new to him. He supposed he would gt used to it eventually. Till then hopefully Tsuki would help him. Then maybe they could travel together as companions. This thought warmed him and made him feel lighter and happy.

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
The utter happiness in his face was more than enough to bring a grin to her own face. It was just so easy to be happy around this other. She tipped her head at his confused look when she asked about eating and drinking, then winced. Of course, he was still newly hatched. Although everyone seemed to learn quickly, they still had to learn. At least, he would have someone to help him, and would not have to figure it out himself.
Her own tail began to wag as he jumped up in excitement, and she too rose to her feet. She gave him a curious look at his pose, but a longer, more careful glance revealed it was his frame, not his posture that gave him the slightly intimidating look. She also noticed that he was already compensating for it, and nodded. 'He's a problem solver, just like me,' she thought to herself. 'Wonderful, maybe we can travel together, explore together. That's what friends do, right?'
She laughed as he spoke again, and after a moment to think, answered his questions. "It will. A long drink will cool your throat, and maybe between the two of us, we can capture something large enough for the both of us, a large rabbit maybe. That will fill out bellies, and give us energy and strength to go out and discover what there is to discover. Just follow me." With those words, she slowly set out for the pond, giving him time to find his feet, and wanting to make sure he did not get left behind.

"Okay!" he said excitedly and started walking, or well trying to. For a couple seconds he was still with a look of deep concentration on his face. Then finally a look of realization then annoyance crossed over it. Taking one last glance at his tree he mimicked Tsuki. Carefully almost daintily he put on leg forward one at a time. After some experimenting he realized the pattern needed to move without tripping. Satisfied he begin actually walking this time.
It was rather tricky, learning all these things. Walking was slightly irrigating and his body frame was making him unbalanced. It was really strange all these scents that flooded through him. There were slightly bitter ones that made him crinkle his nose, while there were other sweeter ones that he wanted to investigate. He found than some smelled similar to Tsuki and himself while other had a sharper slightly different tone. It was definitely a different type of animal anyway. He decided he liked being out here better than his pod, but still he missed it.
Staring at Tsuki he grew jealous. She seemed to have perfected this walking thing while he could barely stay up. His legs were all wobbly and didn't want to work together. He had to just move he couldn't tell them to move and it got frustrating. Eventually he had better get used to it. He thought angrily a frown crossing his face. However it quickly changed to awe as he saw more creatures moving about in the trees. There were so many things he had never seen before. Well as long as he and Tsuki stayed together he would be happy. For the time being anyway,

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
As they padded slowly down to the pond, Tsuki was thinking about Kyran. She remembered how hard it was to learn everything on her own, and was glad that she would be able to help him. The difficult part would be talking, but even that seemed to be less of a problem to her now. She liked talking with the happy canine, and he made her feel like she didn't have to worry so much about the right way to act or the proper way to talk. She just felt comfortable around him.
At the water's edge, she paused, waiting for him to catch up, them crouched down and lapped the water, slaking her own thirst as well as showing Kyran how to do it. After a bit, she lifted and shook her head, sending a few sprays of water flying about her. She settled into a sit, tail draped once more about her paws, and thought about what to try and catch for a meal. Easiest would be something small, bugs, maybe a rodent, but that would hardly be enough for the pair of them except to whet their appetites.
As she was thinking, her ears twitched back to a rustle in the shrubs about them, and as her eyes narrowed, she spied a family of rabbits on the far side of the little pond. It seemed perfect; a meal large enough for two, and small enough for two still inexperienced canines to capture. But how to do it? She thought on that one, the tip of her tail twitching lazily, until she decided on a plan. "Kyran," she murmured quietly. "You see those animals there? They are called rabbit, and I have heard they are good to eat. If you would like to help me, I believe that we should be able to capture one or two of them. Does that sound all right?"

He had reached the water shortly after Tsuki. It felt absolutely wonderful, and for once he didn't have to look at her for guidance drinking it came naturally. The water soothed his rough throat and though it did not get rid of the empty feeling in his belly all of the way it certainly cut it, by at least half. He wondered what it would feel like to go into the water. However Tsuki seemed to be thinking of something, and he didn't want to disturb her. He yawned showing off his long canines. It felt great to yawn, he decided.
He was content to relax for a while and let Tsuki stay in her thoughts, and he in his. He lay down and rest his head on his paws while her eyes searched the area. It seemed like she was trying to find something. He was curious as to what she was searching for but he didn't want to pry. Of course she could just be day dreaming and letting her eyes wander. No her eyes were too sharp, the look on her face focused. She was most certainly looking for something. Maybe it was the something to eat, he pondered before quickly standing up. The walk over had given his a lot more control and awareness of his body so it was barely a problem.
Shortly after he stood up he heard her say something. Her gaze had stopped and was focusing on those little hoppy things he had seen earlier.Rabbits she called them. Yes they certainly looked very tasty, in fact his mouth was already watering and his paws itched to chase them. However he controlled himself, and his mind went over the best way to go about it. "Yes, that sound fantastic." he murmured back his mind formulating a plan. "What if one of us hid, while the other chases them to the one hiding?" He suggested quietly not wanting to scare their meal off.

In darkness, it is easy to forget; in light, it is hard to remember...
'He learns very quickly,' she thought to herself as Kyran spoke. 'He is so much like me, it is almost funny. Maybe that is why we were able to become friends so quickly.' She waited until he finished speaking, then after thinking on it a bit, gave her own opinion. "You seem quite eager to go chasing them, but do you think you would be better at the chasing, or at the hiding? I am fine with either." She paused for thought, then continued.
"I do have a little more experience than you at catching things, and even though you are still new to walking and running, you are doing wonderfully. Maybe I should be the one to hide, and you to chase? You do seem excited about it, and it will be fun for you, I think." She paused again, then pointed her muzzle to a stand of bushes around the far edge of the water. "I will hide out over there. Once I've disappeared, then you can circle around and begin stalking them. Try to guide them to where I will be. Once they get close, then I will jump out and try to capture them."
She finished with a smile as she turned to him. "Does that sound like a plan?"
