Another time, she would have loved it here.
Now…not so much.
Still, curiosity was a powerful thing, and it led Nerah on through the land of sand, bringing back memories of the time when she had participated in a hunting contest hosted by the foreigner. It had been fun, and she had been proud of her accomplishments, happy to bring her kills to the pack so they could see what she had been up to.
That had been a year ago. She wasn’t sure that she’d ever see the foreigner again, or most of the participants.
Nerah lay down in the shadow of a large dune. It wasn’t much of a cover, but it was the best cover the desert could provide. It occurred to her that she wouldn’t want to stay long in such a place now that she had evolved beyond the occult form and its adaptations suitable for dry climate. She had to agree with that instinct. This land wasn’t as appealing as some of the others she had seen. Still…it was a place she had never visited before, and she wanted to have a good look before moving on to the next territory.
