He continued on, tirelessly, until the beautiful cliffs of the Estuary left him, only to be replaced by what at first looked like a dull and dreary bog. The dreariness soon faded, however, to reveal a beautiful swampland, marked only by a few trees that struggled valiantly to rise out of its surface and grace the sky. They were an amazing site, and honestly, probably the only thin that kept him on course during the day. During the night, the stars were enough, as Shadow had slowly been learning how to recognize constellations and navigate by himself.
Now, the mud was up to his shoulders, the ground just barely being felt under his paws. Each pawstep was a struggle, involving thrusting himself forward with a slowly weakening ferocity.
And still, the mix moved on.
