Dragonfly nervously watched Lukasse get up. She winced as her friend crashed into the ground again. It didn't look like she'd be able to easily use only her hind legs. Would she still be able to carry things? It seemed... It seemed possible. The talons looked like they were still long enough to wrap around stuff. With her new bulk, the watery reptile looked more like a canine. Her foreleg feathering seemed to have disappeared as well, while the rest seemed to have absorbed them and grown larger.
Despite the changes, it seemed Lukasse was alive, functional, and... Well, she wasn't quite ready to call her stronger, since she hadn't determined whether the change was good or caused by nefarious powers. She took in a deep breath and felt relief flow over her. For now, everything was going to be okay. Well, mostly okay, she thought, as she was reminded of the bodies.
She agreed and didn't feel like staying around, so she cautiously trotted forward. The bodies didn't look like they'd come up and grab her or spread a contagious disease, so she slowly pulled aside some mud with a foot. She shuddered and tried a different approach. Dragonfly had tried not to look at the faces, but maybe they would tell her something. Or maybe they would just give her nightmares. They weren't twisted in anger, but they looked very... They looked very dead. She looked away and looked in the glittering water to chase away the images rising in her head. They looked very uncomfortable, like... Like they were sick or something. She didn't know, she didn't have much experience with illness.
"They... They weren't fighting. Something else happened."

Notes: So, since nobody has offered any theories, maybe they were starving or hungry and decided to eat some blue river moss. They couldn't figure out how to cure themselves and died.
