Shadow flicked an ear, remembering the lesson he had been taught by Silva earlier. "You know how everyone's bigger than us? It's not 'cus they're older than us, it's called evolving, and it makes you bigger, but it also changes stuff about you too. He hesitated, wondering how he could explain this so it made sense. He still didn't really get evolving himself. You do it twice. When you're daddy's size, you don't like water, and when you're mommy's size, you don't like underground stuff." He wrinkled his nose. "Evolving sounds complicated. I hope it never happens to me"

Silva nodded, considering. "If your theory is correct, then maybe our ancestor's sacrifice was enough to make sure something like that never happened again." She sighed, shaking her head. "I just wish we could talk to them. They'd definitely know the answers to all these. And don't you worry, I'm gonna make sure none of us ever die!" the comment was delivered grandly, a bit overconfidantly, but Silva was sure of herself. No one - no one who wasn't prey or a pod - had ever died, that she knew of. Maybe it just didn't happen to canines and felines? She knew she was just kidding herself, but it was an optimistic theory, or so she thought

I intend to stay alive until I have nobody left and I hope that never happens. I can help more by being alive than I would dead." he felt silly talking about such things, but then again, who wouldn't wonder what happened to everyone before his generation? They would never know for sure, but pondering about it wouldn't hurt anyone as far as any of them knew. "The other two trees seem to be doing fine anyhow, just look at our beautiful pups who came from them! If the Annab Tree doesn't recover completely I highty doubt it will spread to the other two, as they're completely different types of tree. You don't see us catching colds from ladybugs, do you?" he chuckled, there was no getting him down no matter how grim the situation. Optimism came naturally to him, it always had. [/style]

Seraphi frowned. “It does sound scar, but I don’t think I’d mind it. They’re so big and strong… I wanna be big and strong, too!” She blinked as a thought occurred to her. “Do we even evolve? We’re…different from most creatures, I’ve noticed. We don’t really have a species or anything like they do, right? So is it even possible?” She hoped so, but if not…well…it couldn’t be helped, either way.

Nerah laughed. “Maybe…I wonder if there’s a way…maybe another evolution that allows us to speak with the dead? I don’t think they just blink out of existence once it happens. There’d be no point to anything…” But she was confusing herself, and she shook her head. “Or maybe it’ an off-shoot occult ability we haven’t figured out? I don’t know.”

She nodded when Antares brought up protections between species in regards to disease. “Maybe. It’s a nice thought, at least. In any case, if the plagues are fading, maybe we don’t have to worry about it anymore. At least, for a while.”

Shadow shrugged. "Apparently, mommy and daddy - my mommy, not yours- thought I would be a canine or feline, they didn't know mixes existed. Also, we're the only two, so I guess it's rare. I don't know if we evolve though, but since all three of our parents are evolved, I guess we're gonna be like that too one day. But if you evolve, I'll do it too" he added bravely. "That way, it won't be so scary"

Silva jumped at Nerah's words. "That's it! As Occults we can see the future. Why not the past? It'd be the same thing, only in the opposite direction! If we figured out how to do it, we could simply see back to what happened. Maybe then we'd gt some answers!" She frowned. "I don't want to have to evolve again though. Twice is quite enough for me"

But don't you keep your abilities from your occult form even as an absconding anyhow?" he flicked his tail. His occult clairvoyance only worked for telling him what certain plants do. He didn't particularly want to see the future anyhow, it would take the excitement out of life. "Well now that that's settled, we could all use a nap, right?" he sighed and yawned loudly, nuzzling Silva affectionately as he got to his feet to grab some of the feathers from Shadow's kill to take to the den. Seraphi purred. “We are who we are, I guess, and they are who they are. I wonder if other species besides the three exist.” It would be a neat thing to discover, anyway. “Evolving may seem scary, but it seems to be safe. Our parents all lived through it, right? Our mothers did twice, ad maybe daddy will too, someday.”

Nerah wagged her tail. “I want to evolve as much as possible. If this is it, though, I’m still happy. I’m still trying to master the powers we gained.” She nodded to Antares at his comment about not seeing the future. “I can’t either, at least on purpose. I’ve tried using it to predict the weather, without success. Maybe I need practice, but I don’t know how.” When he suggested a nap, she nodded. “The past several nights have been taxing…I’m sure our…pups? Kits? Well, I’m sure they’re getting ready to sleep, as well.” She leaped on top of the cave and settled into her own nest.

Silva shrugged. "Well, it would be interesting to evolve again" the canine admitted. "Though I dunno. I'm quite satisfied with myself the way I am though- though learning how to control the occult powers would be nice. Mine has bee pretty helpful for directions, whenever I get lsot exploring, but otherwise hasn't really shown up much." Yawning, she leaped up on top of the cave, landing a few feet away from Nereah, and curling up in her own nest to get some sleep. "The teleporting thing I have almost down though" she yawned.

Shadow nodded. "That's true" he decided. "Alright, I'll evolve with you, when the time comes! Maybe we can do it together!" satisfied, he curled up in his own nest before a thought occurred to him and he sat back up. "Let's go sleep with daddy today. He should be coming in soon"

I'm still learning how far I can go with it though. I don't want to evolve again though, I'm happy with my form, it suites me." Antares stretched and began padding over to the cave as the two canines settled into their nests. "Good night, dearies." he ducked into the cave and readied his nest for him to sleep in. He finally managed to expand it to not only fit him, but both of the pups as well if they chose to sleep with him. Figuring all of them were taxed by the excitement, he sprinkled the lavender blossoms into his own nest. They smelled heavenly as is, so whether he was stressed or not, he liked them in his bedding. "I already know you're gonna snuggle in with me, so get over here so that I can sing you to sleep." he chuckled as he flopped into his nest, leaving room for both Shadow and Seraphi to join him. Music was one of his most recent discoveries, songs would come to him in his dreams. Maybe it was an occult thing, he didn't know but he liked it. He had a pleasant voice to sing the songs with, but he only felt comfortable singing to the pups as the drifted to sleep. [/style]

Nerah wagged her tail. “What happens happens, right? For all we know, we’re at the top, anyway, which does give me time to figure out how to make my powers bend to my will.” She laughed. “I’m not quite as useful with any of them as the two of you are with yours. All I’ve been able to do that’s any good is help us find this place.” She shifted to make herself comfortable. “I guess I’m just a little…slow.”When Antares padded toward the cave, Nerah nodded to him. “Goodnight, both ofyou.”

Seraphi purred. “I would like that, if it’s possible.” Evolution was an exciting thing to think about, even if she couldn’t evolve. If it was impossible, maybe there was some other way to gain the powers of evolved creatures? She hoped so. They seemed cool. “Daddy doesn’t mind us sharing when we have our own nests?”

[Meesh]

Shadow grinned. "Nah. I think he likes it. And he sings pretty well. c'mon!" nudging his sister lightly with his nose, the mix bounded over to where his father was, snuggling under his belly comfortably. "Sing Seraphi that one you did last week, Father, the really cool-sounding one"

Silva shrugged, nudging Nerah lightly with her shoulder. "You'll get it in time, no worries. And don't forget, everytime I try to teleport, I end up landing on someone! At least you haven't done that bit yet" grinning lightly, she settled down comfortably to sleep. Her family and packmates were home, her pups were happy and healthy (for she considered Seraphi to be part daughter to her anyway) and life was good "Night all"

Shadow was already snuggled up against his belly waiting for him to lull them to sleep. He cleared his voice roughly. "In the spring we made a boat Out of feathers, out of bones. We set fire to our homes, Walking barefoot in the snow. Distant rhythm of the drum As we drifted towards the storm. Baby lion lost his teeth, Now they're swimming in the sea." his tail began thumping a gentle rhythm as his voice softly rose and fell to the lyrics. This particular song was somber, but it seemed to put Shadow to sleep. "Troubled spirits on my chest Where they laid to rest. The birds all left my tall friend, As your body hit the sand. Million stars up in the sky Formed a tigers eye That looked down on my face, Out of time and out of place. So hold on, Hold on to what we are, Hold on to your heart~" he began to hum the melody, keeping his pitch steady and clear. "Awaken by the sound of a screaming owl. Chasing leafs in the wind, Going where we've never been. Said goodbye to you my friend, As the fire spread. All that's left are your bones That will soon sink like stones. So hold on, Hold on to what we are, Hold on to your heart~" the feline's voice trailed off, the song was done. He curled up slightly tighter, laying his head down in his sweet smelling grass. The melody of the song continued playing in his head, also making him drift off. [Here's the song he's singing: link. “Maybe…” Nerah vaguely remembered lading on Silva during one of her first teleports, though that may have been a dream. She yawned and curled up tight. “It seems to be different for everyone. Antares with herbs, you with locations,…I wonder where my abilities will steer me.” It would be good to figure out what she was best at. It had been over a year and she still hadn’t figured that out for herself. Well…for all she knew, she had eternity. She just had to keep working at it, right? Yeah, right. But now, it was sleep time. She let ou a small sigh as she drifted off.

Seraphi followed her brother, curling up next to him as their father began to sing. She tried to listen, she really did, but all the trying in the world meant she was able to hear the first four lines before sleep took her.

Silva flicked an ear, hearing the low haunting melodies of her mate's singing drift from inside the den to out where she and Nerah were. She smiled happily at the sweet music, letting her eyes drift slowly shut. Hopefully Seraphi would be enjoying this music as much as she knew Shadow was. "You'll be fine, Nerah" the canine found herself muttering sleepily, even though her best friend was probably already asleep. "you were always the..the first of us to evolve...ZzZ" the canine's voice faded to a gentle breathing as she let her eyes drift shut, asleep.

Technically, though, Shadow wasn't enjoying it at all. He normally tried to keep awake during his father's entire song, but he had been so tired today that barely a line in, the black striped mix was fast asleep, smiling lightly at the beautiful singing, even though he wasn't awake to hear it. Life was good.
